Since everything we do reflects our view of God and salvation is linked to our knowledge of God, how can we defend that divide?

Before I reply I need to understand what you really mean by "knowledge of God" and how this is linked to salvation. Sorry if I appear slow to understand but some people use similar terminologies with entirely different meanings.

I am not talking about information but knowledge. The kingdom of God is about submission to God. You can only submit to someone you know, even though you can obey someone you do not know. We have been bombarded with false information about God. This is why we feel comfortable disregarding Him. He came to earth to help us to know Him. If we refuse to get to know Him or to correct our misconceptions about Him we are placing our confidence in ourselves and not in Him.

I would add that it is possible to have a wrong belief about God and still have a correct knowledge of Him.
