So if believers ever get stressed out that Jesus is asking them to do too much, it is not Jesus asking them to do whatever is stressing them out (Luke 10:40-42). They need to take a step back and ask Jesus what particular spiritual work he is actually asking them as individuals to do (Mark 13:34, Romans 12:6-8).

Who was Jesus talking about?

Zech 13:8-9 and Matthew 26:31 are not the same. This is like comparing apples to cheesecake, they're not the same subject.


We have to remember that God and His Son stand outside of time and space.

Sometimes part of a prophecy is fulfilled one day and the rest at some later time.

Christ also quoted part of a section of scripture from the scroll of Isaiah when he did the reading in the temple.


You are trying to disconnect these scriptures because it does not fit your doctrine.

The Old Testament and the New Testament are like a beautiful woven fabric. Each verse is a thread that makes up a part of the pattern of the fabric. Christ quoted that one verse from Zech. for a distinct reason. However, it may not fit our preconceived notions.

Zech 13:7 is about Israel during the tribulation. Read Zech 13:7-9, this is not about the world.

This is where it is written:

Did it ever occur to you that your teachers might be mistaken, and maybe Zechariah was referring to the ministry and generation of Christ?

This is the theme of the last chapters based on well-known, fulfilled prophecies:

  1. Chapter 9: Christ rides into Jerusalem upon a colt (Zec 9:9 -- Matt 21:5; John 12:15)
  2. Chapter 11: Betrayal of Christ (Zec 11:12-13 -- Matt 27:3-10)
  3. Chapter 12: Crucifixion of Christ (Zec 12:10 -- John 19:32-37)
  4. Chapter 13: Scattering of Disciples (Zec 13:7 -- Matt 26:31; Mark 14:27)
  5. Chapter 14: The day of Pentecost (Zec 14:8 -- John 7:38-39; Acts 2:1ff)
  6. Chapter 14: The Lord becomes ruler of all the earth (Zec 14:9 -- Matt 28:18)

That we know. Most to all of the other Zechariah prophecies are, and have been, subject to much misinterpretation and speculation.

And they need to be reading the Bible, every word of it (Matthew 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16), over and over again. For it will expose to them any unrepentant sin which still exists within their heart (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16), so that they can repent from it and confess it to God, and be forgiven and perfect before God (2 Timothy 3:17; 1 John 1:9; 2 Corinthians 7:1).

Instead, he leaves them as his real children with free will. And there is no assurance that they will choose to do that (Matthew 25:26,30, Luke 12:45-46, Luke 8:13).

It is sometimes claimed that Zechariah 14 was fulfilled at Jesus' first coming. But Jesus' first coming wasn't the day of the Lord (Zechariah 14:1), for that won't begin until his 2nd coming (1 Corinthians 1:7-8; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2). Also, Jesus' first coming didn't occur right after Jerusalem had been defeated by all nations gathered against it (Zechariah 14:2-5). Also, at his first coming, Jesus didn't fight the nations (Zechariah 14:3) and then land on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4). And he didn't make it so that the animal-sacrifice boiling pots in the temple in Jerusalem became as holy as the bowls before the altar (Zechariah 14:20). And didn't make it so that every pot in Jerusalem and Judah became holiness to the Lord (Zechariah 14:21). Instead, at his first coming, Jesus left unbelieving Jerusalem spiritually desolate (Luke 13:35). Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

The ability of believers (though not their choosing) to repent from and confess to God every sin that they commit is assured. For if they do commit a sin, even if they are unaware of it, Jesus will send them warning and chastening to make sure that they know that they have sinned and need to repent (Revelation 3:19, Hebrews 12:6-7, cf. Jeremiah 31:18-19). And he will give them time to repent (Revelation 2:21a). It is only if they wrongly employ their free will to waste the time that they are given, and ignore the warning and chastening, and refuse to repent (Revelation 2:21-23, cf. Deuteronomy 21:18-21) until death (1 John 5:16b) or Jesus' return (Luke 12:45-46), that they will ultimately lose their salvation due to unrepentant sin (Hebrews 10:26-29; 1 Corinthians 9:27, Galatians 5:19-21).

If saved people become unsure whether or not they have ignored Jesus' warning and refused to repent from a sin, they need to pray and ask him to reveal to them if there is any unrepentant sin in their heart (Psalms 139:23-24). And they need to be reading the Bible, every word of it (Matthew 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16), over and over again. For it will expose to them any unrepentant sin which still exists within their heart (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16), so that they can repent from it and confess it to God, and be forgiven and perfect before God (2 Timothy 3:17; 1 John 1:9; 2 Corinthians 7:1).

You are trying to disconnect these scriptures because it does not fit your doctrine.

The Old Testament and the New Testament are like a beautiful woven fabric. Each verse is a thread that makes up a part of the pattern of the fabric. Christ quoted that one verse from Zech. for a distinct reason. However, it may not fit our preconceived notions.


Zec 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

I don't think you understand either verses. Zech 13:7 is about Israel during the great tribulation.

That's pretty obvious. You won't understand the bible by merely reading a single verse out of context. So much for your argument.

The rapture is a fallacy.

Here's what will actually happen: after an indeterminate amount of time, Christ will return, all the dead will rise and the restoration of Heaven and Earth will be completed and declared the New Creation. It happens here, in this place. Believing that God is going to take anybody to another place is simply not a Christian belief.
