Rap Or Rock?

I think it highly irregular that there are christian people who listen to such garbage as Eminem and Fifty-Cent........ ... (don't take it as condemnation, brother) ...

I personally agree with the former spoken... that rap is superior for communication... but the music of rock.. metal.. is far superior....

so I like both rock and rap... but only if it's christian and speaks the truth.

Hey family! I know this thread hasn't been posted too, but can you recommend me good christian alternatives to some of my favorite bands... thinking about Rage, Sublime, Chili Peppers... that type of thing. Currently listening to KJ-52, Tobymac, Pillar... it's good stuff... Thanks!

Rock.

Rock actually has instrumentation, rather than just like-sounding beats and a few synths. Rock has an interesting and diverse history which far predates the history of rap. Rock has instrumental solos etc.

Compared to Rock, Rap has no emotional power. Without the distracting (and yes, like-sounding) beats, the so-called gangsta's would sound about as intimidating as a blow-up doll.

How about Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues". It has the same "flow" as rap does... in fact it was modeled off of beat poetry / flow of consciousness rhyming.

You can't really compare the two... I listen to both, it depends on my mood. Though I prefer to listen to Heavy Metal when I work out or go mountain biking alone in the woods.

Rock.

Rock is more diverse, it has something for everyone. There are many sub-types of rock, Metal, Hard rock, Alternative, punk, psycadelic and classic. Anything from The beatles, Elvis, The doors, To bands like metallica, nirvana and pantera. There is christian rock as well. Most of the bands we grew up with were rock bands.

The reason it is better than rap is because rock has better played instruments. Rap is just poetry to a weird beat. Also there is less dehumanizing of women (Despite bands like KISS and Motley Crue) If I want to watch someone play, I don't need to look at stupid gimmicks like half naked women, shiny diamonds and fast cars. I want talent in my music!

and while Rock is more diverse, there are also many different 'flavours' of rap too. I mean, there's East Coast, West Coast, Hardcore (which would be the equivalent of metal, I suppose), Pop-Rap (like Pop-Rock), Underground Rap (which would be the equivalent of Indie Rock), Southern Rap (just like Southern Rock), etc.

A very cool genre is rapcore, which is a fusion of rock and rap (rock instrumentation with rap vocals).
