LOVE this one! Especially in today's scared-of-everything society. I was having a conversation just this morning with someone about the swine flu, and how they believe the gov't created it and that the gov't is planning to wipe us all out at some point. There's also a passage from The Return of the King that I would put here, but I'm at work and can't remember it word-for-word. It's towards the end, when Sam and Frodo are nearing Mordor and Sam sees the clouds part for a moment, and when he sees the stars, he feels hope. If anybody knows what part I'm talking about, please post it!

From the ending of The Tragical History of Dr Faustus. I LOVE this play. In short, Faustus sells his soul to a demon in exchange for 24 years of having everything he wants. At the end of it all, as the clock is nearing midnight on his last day, he realizes what is about to happen, that he's about to be cast into hell, and he has no hope of salvation. You can feel his desperation and terror in his words...it's horrible and brilliant at the same time!

FAUSTUS. Ah, Faustus,

And then thou must be damn'd perpetually!
