I've made quite a few quilts, but always find the hardest part to be cutting out the peices. Any suggestions for cutting accurately sized peices quicker?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've not made a quilt, but I'd like to make one sometime for my daughter. Do you have a rotary cutter and mat with a cutting guide? My mom has that and she can cut up fabric real quick!

I second the motion to use a rotary cutter. Just practice on some scraps until you get steadier. You do have to push down pretty hard to go through all the layers, and that can make it difficult to keep the ruler in place.
When I'm cutting out a quilt, I usually don't sit down. If you stand while you're using a rotary cutter and straight-edge, you can exert more pressure on the ruler, keeping it in place while you cut.

Acceptance do you get the H&G Channel? If so during the afternoons there is a show on called Simply Quilts and that is all they use for cutting, you could watch and pick up some tips.
As Judy said you need to stand and spread your fingers across the rulers and push down with your hand to keep it in place ( just make sure you keep your fingers on the ruler and not hanging off the sides! ) .
An olfa is harder to use, I use a Fiskers, the large one, it is a lot easier and cuts faster because there is greater surface area.

I also second the use of rotary cutters. I have an olfa, and haven't had any problems with it. Haven't even sliced a finger on it yet!
Just make sure to keep the blade clean, sharp, and retracted when not in use. As far as accurately cutting, taking the time to fold the fabric accurately lengthwise is worth its time in gold. Make sure to press down, do it on a surface where you can support the extra fabric, so it isn't inclined to be pulled by gravity, and use 100% cotton, as it is less slippery.
Do share pictures!
