Ok, not sure if this is the right forum to post this at, but from what I have heard and seen here, it looks like it. I am not here to bash, nor to start a long thread about who's right or wrong, I just got a quick question or two about mormonism, which I am curious about. So please any mormons who like answering, please do without fear, I am not here to bash :)

I just want to know, how come you guys have Missionaries? Is it required, or voluntary? If you don't do it, is it frowned upon? I just wana know a little bit more about this.

God Bless!

As a life-long Mormon (19 years and counting) i can answer these questions for you.
1) Q: Why do we have missionaries? A: to spread the word of God around the world.
2) Q: Is it required to be a Missionary? A: It is requested of all 19 year-old males in the church to serve a mission. But, it is strictly voluntary.

How can something be required but stricktly voluntary at the same time? I'm just curious.

Wow, I thought no one else would reply to this thread, sorry for not checking this out earlier. Thanks for answering me Latter Day Saint, I have been wondering about that. So what happens if a 19 year old male does not go on a Mission? Does he go to hell? Does the church punish him? Or is he socially pushed out of the circle? Or does nothing happen, and life goes on as normal?

Yes, the first thing we do is cover him in tar to show his shame before the world. After a few hours of skin-suffocating goodness, we begin to throw tennis balls at him because, well, that tar isn't gonna be sticky forever, so let's get all the fun we can out of him. The next day we take him out back to saw off his horns, because, as all TRUE mormons have horns because we're daemonic, we wouldn't want him to be confused with a true member of our cult. After a thorough beating with sticks we then shun him forever because he smells like tar and is all bloody. Who wouldn't? We then fast for him so that he wont die of his wounds before he can grow old and serve as a Senior-citizen missionary. Don't even think about what we do when THEY don't serve!:sorry:

As you can tell, the above is all a farce. There are no normal negative(alliteration) consequences to not serving a mission except for a couple off the top of my head:
-You miss out on all the growing-up experiences that a missionary has while serving
-Many LDS girls will pass you up in favor of guys who have served and are more mature because of serving.

Hope this helped and/or made you giggle a bit!:D

Even though it did make me giggle a bit, it also refreshened in my mind the danger that Mormons represent for poorly educated populations, such as my country's, who can be easily swayed by cheap persuasion tactics.

Let's all Christians pray for the conversion of all Mormons to the only true Church of Jesus Christ, that founded by Him on the Rock, which He promised the gates of Hell would not prevail against, and outside of which there is no salvation.

Hey, I served in Sao Paulo myself.
1-Which "cheap persuasion tactics" are you referring to? Or are you just calling names?
2-You have a very dismal view of your own patria, cara. Those whom I would call the most ignorant that I ran into were those who spouted off scriptures that their pastor fed to them to tell us to make us blush or go away, most of the time not understanding what they have said. THAT'S ignorance.
3-How in the world did what I wrote " refreshened in my mind the danger that Mormons..". What specifically did I say?

Let's all Christians pray for the conversion of all Mormons to the only true Church of Jesus Christ, that founded by Him on the Rock, which He promised the gates of Hell would not prevail against, and outside of which there is no salvation.
I'm still waiting for SOMEONE to tell me which church they refer to when they say something like this.

Don't be a crente, dude.

My apologies jbucky, I did not wantt his thread to turn into another debate of "mormons are wrong, we the (insert church) are right! Your going to hell." Thanks for answering me, so it looks like nothing "reallY" bad happens, I was curious as to this, since its not really discussed. If I get any more questions about Mormonism I will be sure to ask, since I am a curious cat ;)

I’ll keep that in mind each time Christian missionaries witness to us pagans. :priest:

it mentions no denominations, and I dont follow any denominations because God commands there be no divisions in the church and he never commands for there to be a denomination.
So you're non-denominational. That in itself is a denomination. They have their own set of beliefs. Generally it's a simplistic literal interpretation of the Bible and they just say "I got by the word of God, not the word of man" or something similar.

Non-denominationalism, although not as centralized as other denominations, is its own belief system in itself. So basically you're just another denomination.

Fun fun.

... Non-Denomination=Doesnt follow any Denominations. Therefore your saying being Non-Denominational is illogical and an oxymoron. Look man, I DONT FOLLOW A DENOMINATION, my church is (my city) Bible Church, im not baptist, im not catholic, im none of that. Who came up with the idea that if someone says they dont follow a denomination then they in fact do follow their own denomination...lol. I follow the original Church started by Christ and the 11 apostles, not some denomination created by man.
