  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Questions you always wanted to ask a Christian or non believer and remarks are accepted also.

What aspects of Christianity/Christians do those who don't claim it for themselves like, if any?

If I ask myself a similar question, there is probably aspects of many other faiths that I like. I like the devotion of some Muslims. I like the whole idea of Zen koans. I recently read the Upanishads and found them fascinating; there are numerous statements that are almost mirror images of statements in the Bible.

When it comes to atheists, it's a little different since they are not a homogeneous group. What I like about many of those who are regular on this site is their commitment to rationality and the sciences. I find that to be a helpful counter to some anit-science attitudes; it keeps things honest.

All in all, I think the mix on CF is great. It keeps things from descending into mindless agreement and back patting. It keeps things interesting. Out of all the Christian forums I've visited, this is the only one I find interesting.

Seems a need for this thread as a result of another thread. Feel free to ask but be nice and no abuse.
Thanks
Happy 4th!!

May I post here?

I have an excellent question for those who once claimed to be a Christian, but now claim otherwise.

And Happy Fourth to you as well.

For a Christian::. If you do something once a year that your not sure it is a sin. Let's say it is a specific sin but you only do it once a year not practiced. Do you think it is a sin. What if it is not a designated, maybe boarder line sin. Still not practiced. Is it a sin?

Here's my question to those of you who claim you were once saved, but have "shaken off the shackles and are now free":

What made you give up all these benefits ...

Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalm 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

... to embrace atheism?

1. Perhaps you weren't saved in the first place?

2. Or perhaps you are now a victim of Paul's warning not to embrace evolution, as it can lead to atheism?

3. Or perhaps you just don't know?

I would love for someone to answer this honestly.

Well hopefully if you ask a question of an atheist they will answer.

Depends on how tough the question is, I suppose.

Might have to use a crowbar to pry an answer out. ;)

Yes.

And you're talking to someone who believes doing 26 mph in a 25 mph zone is a sin.

I'm not an atheist but i love Jesus and the greater picture is if you don't your life will end at death and you won't be with Jesus. So the other is lose lose lose
What if Jesus is not God? What is one of the many other religions is right?

It not not Jesus vs atheism. It’s Jesus vs all the other gods. And atheism.

I find the wording of this question confusing.

Are you asking if it's a sin to do something if you're unsure that it's sinful? Or are you asking if you commit a particular sin, or maybe do something a bit questionable, but not often, if that's a sin?
