  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Questions you always wanted to ask a Christian or non believer and remarks are accepted also.

What if Jesus is not God? What is one of the many other religions is right?

If these "gods" are what they claim to be, which one would be your preference?

Love-thine-enemy Jesus?

Or convert-or-die Allah?

Of the two, which would be your preference?

The most puzzling to me is how can you explain the wonders of creation without a great creator?
I think the thing to remember is that “I don’t know” does not mean “therefore supernatural agency”.

2. Or perhaps you are now a victim of Paul's warning not to embrace evolution, as it can lead to atheism?

Sorry not an anti-theist, but wondering if you could provide a scripture to your statement. Thank you

It not not Jesus vs atheism. It’s Jesus vs all the other gods. And atheism.

I agree. For myself, I know I could be wrong. I believe it's true, but faith in Christ does not have the range of intersubjective agreement that mathematics, logic, and to a lesser degree the sciences enjoy. I don't see that as a problem so long as I am honest with myself and others on that account. Honestly, it gives me humility (I hope) that I think is essential to faith lived well, i.e. knowing one could be wrong (falliblism). But something similar can be said for all of us, I think. Humility about what we know should be a human virtue, and certainly it should be for whatever we believe.

Although I know I could be wrong about my faith, I have a hard time rejecting my own experience. Well, I can't and, at this point, have no desire to try. Spiritual practices, primarily Christ oriented contemplative prayer, has profoundly changed my own faith from primarily intellectual assent to intimate experience. But if I were to put all my cards on the table, what I can't believe is that the transcendental goods of goodness, justice, beauty, and so on do not exist. Goodness and God are basically synonymous for me. My own faith is very much Platonic in that sense. So even if I'm wrong about Christ, which I don't believe I am, I am more confident goodness is real (actual).

Ok, if you say you don’t know. That’s a good start. Let’s start there.

For the anti-theist who argues science, Stephen Meyer has a few things to say:

What other gods? No other religion has one that actually claimed the title of "God". If you know of one, please do share! Blessings.

Sure.

It's not really a "warning" as much as it is a principle.

Paul said in Romans ...

Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

1. How do evolutionists "profess themselves to be wise" today?

Of course they aren't going to just come right out and say, "Look at me and how wise I am!"

No ... instead they LABEL themselves "wise".

Homo sapiens means "wise man".

2. Have you ever met a person who started out believing the Bible, then had questions [about how we got here] that their pastor couldn't answer?

And because of that, they ended up "deconverting"?

There are some right here in CF.

They usually say:

"I was a Christian once, then I had questions my pastor couldn't answer, and he told me to [shut my mouth, drop it, keep quiet, go away, you name it], and now I realize I was in bondage to religion. But now I'm free from all that!"

Paul says:

Professing themselves to be Homo sapiens, they became atheists.

Struggling with the above meaning, but do not refute it, thinking bottom line is:

Intellect does not = wisdom

Thank you

I wonder how many left god because God didn't answer their prayers,?

Karens and Darrens?

Please explain, we are lost

Karen: God, heal me please. I have cancer. Thank you.

Cancer gets worse.

Karen: God, I still have cancer. Help me, please.

Cancer gets worse.

Karen: God, are you there?

Cancer gets worse.

Karen: Bye-bye, God. I thought You were real.

Cancer goes away.

Karen: Dr X healed me of my cancer. And to think I spent all that time praying. I may as well have prayed to a milk carton.

Very few people here will answer that; if at all.

Hitch Slap, Split Rock, and a couple others are known for answering my questions as I ask them.

The rest?

The bottom line is that people who embrace evolution run the risk of ending up denying God.

It happens.

Are the non-wondrous aspects of reality (such as childhood leukemia, the holocaust, Nickelback) evidence of the absence of a creator?

No.

The presence of a devil.
