• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey this thread describes exactly what I am going through right now. As one goes through it, it seems like a incredibly lonely road. And because there are some who don't understand and many who do not know how to minister to people like us, it makes it that much harder.

I am in Christian counseling myself and also on medication. To the OP, I know exactly how you feel.

Hi OP,
Even old people, I'm 50, struggle with OCD thoughts like you do. I too grew up in a solid Christian family and recieved Christ at the tender age of 5. I didn't have one of those awesome turning from horrible sin experiences.. I just had simple child like faith.
It sounds like you might be what's referred to as a pure obsessional. That's me too. I don't have compulsions just those awful haunting, disturbing and sickening thoughts that pop up and then refuse to leave. Don't you just love waking up in the morning stretching and then... Wham!! the brain says " Now what was that thing you were upset about? Oh yes.. I remember.. time to get back at it again." And the more you argue with the thought the stronger it gets.
I believe that for a Christian the OCD thoughts that cause us to doubt our salvation are the most painful of all. Because like you said, apart from Christ, life is meaningless. I also think it's hard because for the Christian Christ is always in our thoughts. So these type of OCD thoughts aren't something we can easily shift our attention from.
Several of my children have been afflicted with OCD also. It definately runs in families. When the other members say it's good to see a Doctor and get therapy they are telling you the truth. You can get help and you can get better. This problem can return also.. during times of extreme or prolonged stress.
I'll be praying for you buddy. I really will.... promise.
So glad you found this forum. It is the beginning of an answer to your prayers for help.
Isn't God soooo Good!!
