  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He attends Calvary Chapel and it is a nondemoniational church.

When I lived in Pensacola a few years ago, I went with a friend several times to his church which was a Calvary Chapel...definately the best church experience I've had yet. I can't wait to get back to the States so I can hopefully find another!

I have been a born again christian for over two years and I attend baptist but I am not a baptist, I attend pentacostal on occasion, but I am not a pentacostal either. I am a believer.. I believe in Gods word and I dont feel i need to chose a denomination and I am sure I will never chose one, because some of them have too many man made laws in them.. Gods word is all i need.
Praise the Lord!!

Thats a tough question for me. I started going to anglican church because it was one of the first churches i felt comfortable with. I go to a full gospel church when I visit my mom which is often and was baptised there so Im not sure what I am. The anglican church feels like family.

I was born and raised as a Catholic, but as I got older I went through a period where I strayed from the church (for personal/traumatic reasons). For several years now I have been feeling the need to return to religion in a more formal way, but I don't think I will be choosing any one denomination over all others. I would like to begin attending services and/or Bible study meetings, though. I :prayer: that I find the right church for me!

I truly became a Christian last August. However, during my childhood we went to a High Church of England - protestant but really traditional (practically Catholic) - and then about 2 years ago I started going to a normal Church of England church which i love, with a great youth group. However, since last August, I've also been going to a Baptist youth group/bible study. My denominations are a bit confused! So, I just like to class myself as a believer!:D

Ha! I'm happy to hear than there seems to be a movement away from denominations!

Personally I think that denominations are a wedge between churches, and work like shackles on the body of Christ. It's really depressing to think that you could walk into any church and be shunned for going to another church of a different denomination. I dream of the day that people can just walk into the doors of any church and be accepted the same as at any other church.

i want to ask the new the christians , how you choose the christian denomination which you want to join and why ?
I became a 7th day adventist Christian based on the fact that that church, is the only one I've found that the Bible identifies as God's church, for these last days before Christ returns to this earth.
Revelation 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus".

Since I believe that the 'saints' are Christians, of the highest order, they are identifed as keeping all 10 commandments, including the 4th commandment (7th day sabbath), they do so, thru the same faith that Jesus Christ had.

Revelation 12:17 "And the dragon (satan) was wroth (angry) with the woman (church), and went to make [war] with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ".
And since satan is at war...with God's commandment-keeping people.....there results in persecution tactics, such as slander.....
2 Timothy 3:12 "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution".

The SDA church is the only church I've found, that are totally Bible-based, on what they believe and teach.
( and, I was brought up in Sunday-keeping churches until I was 28 years old).

Well, technically you would need to be following the Jewish calendar very closely to determine when exactly the Sabbath is supposed to be held. I don't know how well the Jewish and other calendars match up, but even if it's off slightly, you could be worshipping on the wrong day.

This is one of the reasons I feel it doesn't matter what day of the week you make your Sabbath, as long as you have one and you honor it.

 Hello~I am not really what you would call a "new Christian" however, I have re-dedicated my life to the Lord, and I am more involved than ever in trying to do His work, before, I guess you could say, I was lukewarm. I am now, you might say, "starting over again" Anyway, in answer to the question as to how we pick our denomination. I feel that the Holy Spirit guides us as to the place where we are meant to be. I truly feel that if we "listen" we will know where we should be. He will guide us in ways that we have not even thought of. For instance, when I was looking for a new church home, I was looking in the phone book to see what churches were near me, I only knew of the one that I had been attending, well, lo and behold, this one church had a website, so, I looked it up, and Praise the Lord, I now attend there. Who would have thought it, I had been praying for guidence, and I got it.

I also feel we should go by whether the church believes totally in the bible, that it is the inerrant word of God. If is deveates in anyway from biblical teachings such as adding or taking away, it is a good idea to stay clear of that particular church.

I hope this helps.

Hugs
Susie

A denomination is the specific religion of the Christian churches.

Wouldn't "Christian" be the spoecific religion of Christian churches?

Being non-denominational means that you do not belong to or consider yourself to be a member of any particular organized religion.

No, "non-denominational" doesn't mean anything like that.

Non-denominational simply means that you have chosen not to align yourself with a formal group of churches for the purposes of oversight and cooperative missions programs.

Hello!
I grew up in an atheist family and my parents kept telling me that God was nothing but invented by men to provide an answer to the mystery of death. :(
But 2 years ago i met a Seventh-Day Adventist who told me about his faith. It was the first time i had met a young person who truly believed in God. My other friends all claimed themselves to be Catholics but their faith did not actually go further. I was very impressed. Six months later, i started to read the Bible and to listen to Christian songs, and i did receive the Lord in my heart.
Now i have been to the SDA church for a year and i am very happy with its principles and its reading of the Bible. My mate is going to receive baptism in a fortnight, and i hope it will be my turn soon! :amen:

It took a LOT to make me realize that the Baptist denomination was probably the right one. I'm still not 100 percent sure though. :)
I read a book called Finding the Right Church by Shelly Steig and bookmarked each page that matched my beliefs. Then I visited the official website of the churches and located ones in my area. I looked at the websites of the ones in my area and narrowed them down to my personal preference.

hello ppl! my dad is a pastor and all my life i was a christian. It was last year..that i REALLY accepted Jesus in my heart..really got close to him.
OH! and for dominations..i always got confused. I asked my dad about all the different "christians" and he said we are covenent? what's that?

Just believe that you are saved through Christ as your Savior & Lord and repent of your sins
And know that you must be born again to receive Christ and be accepted as His children
Follow by baptism and church membership.

I've been a Christian for about a year now and have down a lot of reading about church history and denominations. After visiting pretty much every church in my area, I have decided to really look into the Catholic Church to see if it's really for me. I would go to an Eastern Orthodox church if there was one near me. The only other "denomination" I might look into is Messianic Judaism. Why these three "denominations"? Because of history and their "rules" (that most everyone on CF seems to have issues with).
