  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Questions about creation, how long the Earth has been around, and the universe

There are hundreds of assumptions that must be made about history. Creationists use some biblical assumptions to arrive at a different set of conclusions about the formation of our current world.

No.

Creationists don't arrive 'just at a different conclusion'. They have made up their mind from teh start. The bible is right. Everything that contradicts it is wrong. They made that conclusion even before looking at the outside world. They only try to shoehorn the physiscal world in that shape.

Just as there are guidlines set up for spelling things, God sets up a framework for interpreting the world. Don't get into the mindset that non-Christians don't shoehorn the cosmos to fit their own preconceptions. Bubble universes, string theory, The big bang, Quantum Entanglement, The Copenhagen Interpretation, all are frameworks for interpreting data. Some conflicting.

String Theory: Including the idea that there are seven spatial dimensions that are “hiding” in the three we’re familiar with.
The Double Slit Experiment: A CG Mr. Wizard-type guides you through the ridiculousness of the Double-slit experiment.
The Hubble Ultra Deep Field Image: In full-resolution glory. Perfect for those stoned out of their minds.
The Supervolcano: Probably the most plausible doomsday scenario currently on the market.
The Large Hadron Collider: The Scientific Institute that some scientists claim will create a tiny black hole (although apparently that's fine).
Quantum Tunneling: The theory that when a particle is slammed against a barrier that it’s physically impossible for it to penetrate, sometimes it does anyway.
Laser Time Travel: Time travel available within a decade? I can go back and warn myself about Mama Mia!

And, for those whose brains need a quick escape before they implode…

Godel’s Incompleteness Theorems: A German mathematician proves that all of this is just bull anyway.

Who sets up the framework for interpreting scripture? Fallible men. As far as the rest, we are discussing the Theory of Evolution. What does any of the rest have to do with that? String theory is not well established, and has competetion from other theories, which evolution does not. You can do the The Double Slit Experiment yourself without a fancy lab (at least part of it). There is ample evidence of "super volcanoes" (that is a non-scientific term, btw), just go to Craters of the Moon in Idaho, or Yellowstone National Park. etc., etc. Yeah, science is all junk according to you guys... as you type on your computer key board, and post on the internet in your comfy home with all the technology that makes your life easy. All because science is full of it.

Good, you have admitted that a creationist has his mind made up before the evidence and regardless of the evidence.

It is a requirement of faith, a virtue and necessity for you.

Not everybody has this affliction tho.

Among the highest values in science is to be objective about evidence.

One big advantage science has here is while individual may have preconceived ideas, and fail at objectivity sometimes- Scientists all voer the world will look at the same data, and they sure wont all bring the same agenda to the table.

The penalty for bad work in science can be pretty extreme. The penalty for creo-"faith" in mistaken / preconceived ideas is....adulation by other creos.

Sure dad... give "scorn, laughter, disbelief, disgust" to science. The same science that gives you the comfy life you take for granted. What has your dadology given us again? Nothing. Zero. The Big Goose Egg. But at least science has provided you with the technology to come here and sprout your "inerrant" (ha, ha) wisdom, huh?
Science gave us bullets for Libya. The history of man from the bible gives us the way to salvation, as well as the keys to the past and future. How sweet is that?

None of that is provided by your "Split-Merge" dadology.

Ermmm- are your kids home-birthed with no medical help? Do you rely only on faith-healing and not on any medicine? Have you ever had a scan of any kind? Do you use telephones? We know you use computers... how about cars? Electric light?

all things that science gave you. Passionate and serious people sat down and meticulously worked out how they could make them work, and improve our lot one little bit at a time. We are still doing it now.

And it has worked - slowly, but certainly, we are able to reduce suffering more and more. In some places faster than in others, but in almost every place, we are now able to prevent suffering and death, provide comfort, provide the ability to communicate...

If you feel science brings no answers, only God does, then surely you are much happier without all the trappings of science? If all that science brings is weaponry, then surely you should not be using it?

No, it owes me for destroying the planet. It owes God all...He made the laws they tinker with so clumsily. He made more than they know about too....they are small potatoes

God gave us brains and laws, and knowledge. Science is merely one expression of that, and a weak one at that.
And it has worked - slowly, but certainly, we are able to reduce suffering more and more. In some places faster than in others, but in almost every place, we are now able to prevent suffering and death, provide comfort, provide the ability to communicate...
It facilitates womd and tens of millions of baby murders every year, as well as destroys the planet.

Science owes believers a lot too, many of us were the big cheeses of science from the getgo!

If Science is so very weak, why do you claim it is responsible for so much (see your next line)?

It facilitates womd and tens of millions of baby murders every year, as well as destroys the planet.
Do you mean that a "weak" expression of God-given brains, laws and knowledge can do all that?? As far as abortion is concerned (it always is with you Fundies), all you need is a coat hanger.

Science owes believers a lot too, many of us were the big cheeses of science from the getgo!
You can count yourself out, then. I guess we owe you and your split-merge dadology nothing. :p

No, the people who deny global warming and think its Gods will for man to rape the planet that are destroying it.

You have no evidence of God. Your claims are empty and hallow.

It is weak in knowing the past or future. Not in killing us.
Do you mean that a "weak" expression of God-given brains, laws and knowledge can do all that?? As far as abortion is concerned (it always is with you Fundies), all you need is a coat hanger.
But that is not how it is done. Science has stuff for that.

The heat of the sun will be as sevenfold, so believers know about global warming.

[/QUOTE] Yes I do. He has impacted my life. A real force. I also read the prophesies that are now a done deal. I also see history, and nations rise and fall at the drop of His hat....etc etc...

A fetus used in Parkinson's disease medicine or some such has no long life span. People in Hiroshima had their lives shortened. Cancer agents are all over the place, and womd, and pollutants....man has dirtied the waters.
