The only reason we already know about metaphysics and its prevalence in the past is because the means to utilize it is now lost. To even the playing field however, you would inquire into the present understanding or ask one of Jesus' disciples, "today we can extend people's life span through the use of medicine, what has metaphysics ever given us?".
