With my sister and niece, I think it was a combo of some mental issues, but my parents never corrected my sister when she'd get caught in a lie. They didn't want the "hassle" of disciplining her over it. Now it's totally out of control and my niece has followed in my sister's foot-steps. My sister had another daughter who's nothing like her mother and sister. I don't think she has much to do with them--keeps her contact limited. She was never like my sister--from day one, she was nicer and more honest. I feel really bad for her because she had to deal with my sister's nonsense through-out her childhood. I don't get to see her much, but she seems to have turned out well. So, I'm glad for the glimmer of goodness in that mess.

Some people just like to hurt others because they're hurting and they want to drag others down with them. About 20+ years ago, I just refused to take the bait with my sister. My thoughts where that if she wants to play these games with people, she can count me out. I do pray that she turns to Christ, but other than that, I stay away from her.

Sounds like you made a wise choice. I don't know what it is but it makes one wonder when it comes to the kids if it is not something they inherited or they just made a choice to follow suit or step outside the box.

Forgiving them didn't take away the hurt and there ended up being wave after wave of it and I started to wonder if I should approach the altar while this was going on because I was basically being assaulted with feelings.

I DID bring it to my confessor. He told me that it was my ACTIONS that counted--my praying for the people who were doing the slandering--feelings that I totally forgave them for their lies did not. He said to leave it in Jesus' hands. It is not a sin to FEEL hurt, but it's ACTIONS that count.

Don't give others power over you. You know the truth. God knows the truth. And you are praying for those who are trying to separate you from God. Do you really want them to succeed with that? BTW, "this too shall pass".

Thank you AMDG. This makes me feel so much better. Yes know the truth but it is still very hurtful. The things they said were just insane.

I plan on going to confession soon. I'll be interested if my priest says the same. I have been praying for them & offered up my communion yesterday. But I can't stop the feelings. I look at it as almost going through the different stages of grief. I just have to go through the stages. As much as I'd like to be able to brush off the process I just do not think that is going to happen.

I've prayed several times over for God to take these feelings away & I still have them.

Precisely what satan wants to do is cause division through discord, wreaking havoc in Families of which satan has done in the past causing separations, divorce, not only in parents/families lives but with extended family members; step by step and often using one person through slander or talking in an underhanded way (an In-Law that is feeling low in self worth/insecure/unloved as a Child) Michie.

Never underestimate satan, its legions, demons and evil spirits roaming around Michie, of which try and infiltrate into Families, extended Family members lives, with the earthly purpose of creating division between your Heavenly Father, yourself and Family members.

My suggestions are the following from experience "in the past";

+ Open up Jesus' Sorrowful Stations of His Cross (in literal illustrations) and while praying Jesus' Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3pm, feeling Jesus' bitter Passion, hand over this entire situation to Jesus and our Blessed Virgin Mary, consecrating your Heart to Jesus' Sacred Heart and our Heavenly Mother Mary's Immaculate Heart while asking for Jesus' to heal your heart quickly and for your In-Laws' Hearts to heal quickly. Don't forget to pray for what Jesus asks at the same time: for the conversion of sinners using your hardships, sorrows, trials and agonies without rushing, allow a good half hour to an hour, pouring out your heartache to Jesus knowing in your heart that Jesus is indeed listening to His/God's/The Holy Spirit's Chaplet of Divine Mercy, His Our Father Prayer, The Hail Mary and His Creed.

+ Offer up all of your hurts, pain, agonies and sufferings for the conversion of sinners, The Holy Souls in Purgatory, our Blessed Virgin Mary's Holy Intentions and for souls passing over today now and forever, Michie, during The Holy Rosary. In other words, for every hurt and pain, offering up these to Jesus and our Heavenly Mother Mary, will save souls crossing over in Jesus/God's Holy Will, will greatly assist so many Souls in Purgatory (and they will assist you through Jesus during your soul journey and eternally), will assist Jesus in converting souls around the world while assisting you in this situation.

+ Twice daily praying The Lord's Prayer - The Lord is my Shepherd to Jesus from your heart - for your protection daily from enemies which is satan trying to cause division within your Family. Jesus asked me to pray His Prayer for protection and more importantly for me to not react to satan's attacks undoing all of the heartfelt praying daily and Jesus' God's Holy Callings. This is what satan tries to do with people of whom are doing kindhearted things for others - and you know this Michie - you visit your GrandMother in the Nursing Home and do kindhearted things for others there over a long period of time - satan notices that you are in fact spreading Jesus/God's Glory and doing His Holy works - then he attacks those of whom are spreading Jesus/God's Glory at times more regularly.

+ Do not give into this vile creature!! Hand it all over to Jesus and our Blessed Virgin Mary, praying and trusting in Jesus to heal your Heart, while binding your heart to Jesus' Sacred Heart and our Heavenly Mother Mary's Immaculate Heart daily.

+ Jesus and our Blessed Virgin Mary will guide you, heal you and heal your Family's hearts quickly through The Holy Rosary as Jesus and Mother Mary have done in my Family's lives when incidents arise from time to time Michie.

If people had any idea about the craftiness of this old evil creature and that it is not just 'ego'...but a creature that manifests itself into other spirits that were lost and banded together to cause division in Families during peoples lives, often when coming closer to Jesus and more often when carrying out Jesus/God's Holy Callings and spreading God's Holy Word and His existence, Love, Charity and Goodness.

Clear your mind, kneel down in front of Jesus' Holy Cross and His Holy Image, look at Jesus and focussing on Jesus and His bitter Passion, remember all of the profound hurts, agonies, sorrows, heartache that Jesus suffered at the hands of adam, eve, mankind and satan, hand your pains and sorrows over to Jesus, pray and ask Jesus to 'call to mind and heart all of your sins" in genuine remorse for any of your thoughts or actions at any stage during the whole time you have known your in-laws (Jesus knows your kind good heart Michie)....then wait for Jesus/God's Holy response spoken to your heart (during Jesus' Divine Mercy Chaplet after making His Sign of The Cross, One Our Father, One Hail Mary and The Creed. The bible says ' be angry, but sin not." and i think that's the answer (or at least part of it) that you're looking for.
To sin when you were angry would be taking action against your relatives, or flinging back the mud by saying hurtful things about them in turn.

I can't see anywhere that you've taken any action against them.

on the contrary confession, pennance, and taking Holy Eucharest are all part of the healing process whereby God reaches out to comfort and sustain us in our troubles. Being in God's presence thru the Eucharest or thru Adoration helps our souls by calming the rough waters, gently correcting our thoughts, and easing our suffering.

One thing that you could do is to ask God to take the hurt and anger from your soul and create a clean heart towards them within you. Sometimes when the hurt and anger is so hard for us to put down, (i.e. we keep on rehersing it in our mind and heart) it helps greatly to ask for God's help in the matter.

Just tell Him that you're tired of feeling this way, that you don't like it, and ask Him to help you remove the feelings that are holding you back from a complete relationship with Him.
Recognize the hurt and pain for the stumbling blocks that they are, and that they were planted in your heart by satan.

Then it's time for you to take charge. Fling those feelings away, tell those feelings that they do not have your permission to linger inside you any more, and vow to leave them at the foot of the cross.

That's what Jesus is waiting for.

Oh I have handed it over to God for sure. I think though, I am going through some stages of grief that I just have to go through. I've discussed it with several members of my husband's family which has been helpful. Nothing has changed as far as the situation but the hurt becomes less each day.
