Hello, my name is Josh and I'm 17 and I've been a Christian about a year but I can't figure out one thing...how do you know when God wants you to do something for Him? for example what if he wants you to talk to a specific person or go to a certain place..how does He let you know? Do you hear a voice or do you have to do something to figure it out? I want to do something for God and make Him happy and obey Him the best I can.

Well, I'll assume you've been baptized and whatnot. Anyways, the Spirit can guide you a lot of times. Other times, you can ask for signs (see Gideon) or visions even. God will communicate in whatever method He wants. All we must do is be listening.

Hi slim,Just follow what the Bible tells you to do. Find out what pleases God by scripture. The Bible says to be ready to give an answer for the faith that you have, so study to show yourself approved - a man willing to work for God and give answers. Being a witness for God envolves more of what they see us doing than what we are saying. Actions speak louder than words, so live His life while you can on this earth - letting Him live through you as His instrument of love and service to others.
He has already given us a ton of work to do in taking care of the poor and needy of this world, as He said the poor are always with you, and that we can actually minister to Him when we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick, and give shelter to the stranger. This is all quite a challenging lifestyle by itself. So waiting to hear voices doesn't have to take place for us to have purpose in life - going with the gospel and the love of Christ and with the helpful hand of action and truth to the world.
God bless...

1Pe 3:15 but in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you;

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I JOHN 3:16-19 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with ACTIONS and TRUTH. This then is how we KNOW that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us.

JAMES 2:1-4-19 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "go I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is DEAD. But someone will say. "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I Do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder.

MATT. 25:31-45 When the Son of Man comes in his glory....He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.....Then he will say to those on his left,'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil & his angels. For I was hungry & YOU gave ME nothing to eat, I was thirsty & YOU gave ME nothing to drink, I was a stranger & YOU did not invite ME in, I needed clothes and YOU did not clothe ME, I was sick and in prison, and YOU did not look after ME.". "Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me."

That is great! It is great that you want to do something for Him!

God typically talks to me when I pray. He puts things in my mind and He does talk. Usually, when I am walking along, I get a feeling that I should do this or that and it is God. Be patient and pray for guidance. He will guide you to a task, but He doesn't always tell you in advance.

God bless you,
Dave

You just know turst me I've had plenty expereance you feel the holy sprit come over you sometimes you just feel compelled to do someting and other times you can hear a voice in your ears you just know if he wonts you to do something take this expereance for example

I felt like something was wrong I knew it I just prayed I could sense it. the next day I knew it was the calm before the storm... (here is something I wrote on my disk)

04/07/23

Lying in bed watching Inuyasha. I have learnt why I was sensing something the other day. Today my Grandma went in the hospital. They don’t know why. I will do all the praying I can

Why did I have to know something was wrong? I feel so helpless. As the tears fall down from my green eyes I can’t believe how powerless I feel. I knew something was going to happen but I couldn’t stop it. Now my grandma can’t walk can’t walk and my Grandpa is so deeply troubled after being married almost 55 years.

I hate this! I am the only one that knows what is going on. I am week my head is hurting. I feel my strength is leaving. Maybe I can help with my faith just a little. I will add to this tomorrow if it works. My head is spinning but I know what I must do.

Here is what happened. After my show I read the bible. I felt so confused, so helpless, so powerless. I just lay on my side, pictured my Grandma lying in the bed. I felt like I was there I could hear the nurses in the hall, the gentle hum of the machines. I could feel myself putting a hand on her. With that I said out loud “I am a servant of the Lord. He said ask it in my name and it shall be given. Grandma in Jesus name your body is healed.” I command your body to heal in Jesus name. With that I felt this great power flow out of my hand so much so that I started to shake. When that happened I opened up my eyes and they couldn’t focus so I shut off the light and I clasped in bed. I felt so drained I couldn’t even move and very quickly went in to a deep sleep. Today I found out that my Grandma is way more better and she even walked a bit. I am so thankful. Thank you God for this.

Like I said you just know if I wasn't christian I am afraid to say she might had died well now the doctors can't find anything wrong nothing to explain what happened and I know they never will.

Please let me know if it helps I probily won't come on to this post so please maby let me know another way and like I said you just know in your heart

When God speaks to me, it's like how people have already mentioned. It's kinda like an emotion or feeling that compels u to do something. Sometimes God speaks to me gradually, or just immediately. It's kinda like an emotion that is just there, u don't know where it came from or how it got there, and u can't get it to go away. it's just there. Example: God gradually spoke to my heart over a couple months to speak (preach) to my youth group. It came slowly, but never left my mind. And it almost felt like it was my duty, or responsibility to do it. Example: Just walking around the house and I pass by our gardeners. And i get the wierdest feeling to just talk to him about Jesus out of love. God filled my heart up with love for him in an instant. And i wanted him to know about God.

My best advice is this: Just seek after God and grow more in love with him. Get into His Word daily and listen to what God has to say to you. Just develop a relationship with him. Practice living in the Presence of God. Don't be afraid to confront him with thoughts or emotions. Don't be afraid to get intemite with God. I believe that if you make God the priority, everything else will fall into place. Including God revealing his plans for your life, or tomorrow, or the next hour, or the next minute. The more you get to know a friend, the more you can talk about stuff. In the same way, get to know God. Good luck dude :)

in this world of sin, after years of flowing with the evil coarse of this world, the Godly parts of us grows dull.

it takes time to grow spiritually sensitive, and have ears that are acute and can easily hear the vioce of the spirit.

commit to spending time alone with God everyday in prayer, not asking for things but just worshipping him and telling him how you feel about him and the issues in your life. and your spirit will be more and more sensitive to his vioce and movements.

and in time, youll grow to hear him more clearly.

Yes, we are to witness to everyone. I was giving an example of some of the ways God speaks to us. Sometimes, from my short lifetime's experience, God chooses to encourage me to speak to certain specific people even when I am to witness to everyone. And most times, God has had an awesome surprise.

If it feels like God is prompting you, pray over it, talk to some church elders, then do it...same thing if it feels like you shouldn't do something...there are things that are quite obvious like don't murder, don't rape, don't lie...but keep searching for what you are to do with your life. I feel like God is leading me into psychology...it's my gift that he's given me and I really want to do it, but I keep praying over it in case that's not what he wants me to do...I think that, if he doesn't want me to do it, he'll send someone to tell me to turn back and choose another path or he will lay another path out for me in my mind and point to the end he wants me to go to...go where your heart leads you. If you, later, don't find that it's the right path, take another that feels right, always make sure that it corresponds with the word of God, if it doesn't, don't do it...and always pray over these issues before you do them. God bless, good luck!
