There are some basic rules you can follow. 1 Peter 5: 5-6 says, “...God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, If you keep a humble, teachable attitude before God then you will find grace – divine favour with God – and He will open the scriptures to you. Praying Ephesians 1: 17-18 has been a great help to many, and is a prayer for our time.

how do you know when you are reading the bible you are interpreting it in the right way ?

Look for what God had in mind when he created us, not what man's ideas are. Learn His plans purposes and pursuits.

Spend much time in the first three chapters of Genesis. How much understanding you have of these three chapters will determine how much you will understand the rest of it. Simply because what happened in the first three chapters requires Gen 4 through the end of Revelation to explain and/or fix what happened in Gen. 1 through Gen. 3.

The Bible is a complex story of God's relationship with man, and man's creation, fall and redemption.

Therefore it takes much study to learn enough of the pieces to start fitting them together.

Before you accept anything make sure that you can see what is being taught for yourself.

Learn to place things you just have a part of a piece on the "shelf" for later study when more details are understood.:)

1. Take scripture at face value, always begin with a literal interpretation
2. Let scripture interpret scripture. In other words, read other portions of the Bible that relate to the main text you are studying to bring out more understanding.

Study Bible notes, commentaries, other books, etc... can be helpful, but avoid the trap of letting them dictate your thoughts, or feeling like they must be right since the authors are so learned, etc...

You need wisdom from God, your mind renewed by the Holy Spirit, and you need to study.

Ask God to show you what things mean and trust that he will, then study the scriptures, read them, think about them, and study the context of the scriptures. That means look at the historical settings, look at the beliefs of the people who were used by God to write them, and look at how they would have been understood by the people to whom they were originally written.

Everybody thinks they are right about the scripture, else they would change the wrong things.

Truth is, nobody is correct 100%.

While it is true that NOBODY is correct 100% there are people who think they are 100% correct to the exclusion of everyone else, and they do not mind telling you all the places where you are wrong.

There are many people here who are just like this.

If you ever dare suggest that maybe they are wrong about something (anything)... well then you are the devil (they "discern" this you know) and they will begin to follow you around from thread to thread, disagreeing with everything you say.

Without exception they will claim that they are 100% inspired by God in all they say and do. This gives them the right to completely ignore and override all that you say, even to the point of dictating to you what you "really" believe (again, with this mysterious power of "discernment").

You are always wrong because they are always right.

In the end you should just sort of ignore these ones. They are totally useless to your spiritual and scriptural journey. In the end it is your heart, your faith, and your relationship with God. They fault they find with you does not amount to a hill of beans.
