By accepting Christ redeeming act on the Cross for our sins. By this we have a new life in Christ, which entitles us to be sons and heirs (Galatians 4:4-7).

For this is how we get eternal life, which is the gift of God (Romans 6:23)

I Corinthians 15:3-4
3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4) And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Question of the Day:

How can I start a new life in Christ?

I'd like to properly start a new life in Christ. Has anyone got any tips for me please?
If you reckon you know the answer, please reply!

The first step to starting a new life in Christ is changing what you can, and accepting what you can't.

In this way, you will see the path that Jesus has laid before you.
And then, pretty much, you and him walk down it

However, you should become Catholic. It is necessary in maintaining that walk because doctrines of other churches are just going to make you more apt to stumble.

I think that that there are many places to start but for me, it began with seeking to know Jesus better and I began to search scripture. I spent lots of time praying and asking God to reveal his will for my life.

The answers didn't come right away but as I kept seeking him he opened up to me. There came a point when he told me to get baptized and fellowship with other Christians, which meant join a Church.

I am 58 years old and am always seeking a closer relationship with Christ and hopefully will continue until it is time for my spirit to leave this body.

The Lord is my shepherd,
he provides all of my needs.
I pray that your desire is met.

God Bless

Jesus always took people where they were right then and helped them move to the next spiritual step, by giving them a question that would move them forward or backwards depending on their answer.

I do not have the insight into your heart to know the next step you can choose to take, but it will be your choice.

Are you being burdened by your past decisions that have hurt others (in other words “sin”)?

Have you done stuff to relief your conscience (drinking, drugs, obsessions, selfish behavior) and fallen deeper into despair?

Are you looking for “happiness”, because God does not promise you will be happy in this world, but you can find joy, blessedness, value, work and relationship?

Are you trying to “do” something and would you be willing to quit trying (being self-reliant) and allow God to do something for you?

What are you expecting from this change?

Why are you willing to give up what you are doing now?

Right question, wrong place to ask it. Here you will get a hundred different answers, and just end up confused.

So, if you do not already have a church that is the first step. Find a church; any mainstream will do; Church of England, Roman Catholic, Methodist; even Baptist if you really want. Then make an appointment to see the minister, and talk to him or her, and ask your question of that person.

They will be in a far better place to know where you are at present in your journey of faith, and to show you how to move in the right direction.

If it is simply that you want to become a Christian, then that is not difficult; chances are that in wanting it, you are already there, so all you have to say is 'Lord I believe; help my unbelief.' Then go and find that church.

I do not recommend Jehovahs Witness or Latter Day Saints. They are a bit too far away from the mainstream, to say the least, imo.

I wish you well.

I think some of you have misunderstood the question I'm asking. I am a Christian but I don't feel like a very good Christian. All I do is slip up and I'm asking about how I can start again and get it right this time. Perhaps I've asked this particular question in the wrong forum - I'll post it in the Christian advice forum instead.

What is it that makes you feel like you are not a very good Christian? And how do you define "slipping up"?

Btw, welcome to CF and the GT "Dog Pound"

..

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.Galatians 5

I feel like I commit more acts of the flesh and not enough of the Spirit. For example, I find myself doing acts of hatred, envy and selfish ambition. I want to learn how to be peaceful, kind, good, gentle, loving and how to have more self-control. What I mean by "slipping up" is just failing to change myself. I have made some good changes but I feel like I haven't made enough if that makes much sense to you. Basically, I'd like to know how to become a better Christian.

Instead of trying not to do stuff, why not try doing stuff. The indwelling Holy Spirit (hopefully you have) does not sit around trying not to do anything wrong, but is wanting to be active doing good stuff. You still have free will so you can hold the Spirit back by staying in control. Just take the Love you do have and the little faith you do have and do something small but positive with it and only because of your faith and Love (not to get anything from it). Your Love and Faith will grow. You can fill your life with good stuff and just not have time to get in trouble.

Do you think the answer to your question lies in the CF?
