  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does tithing mean that 10% needs to go to the church, or does it mean the money can go to other places, such as the Red Cross? Or do you just give the money wherever God leads you?
You don't have to tithe. That was for the Jews. We give as God has proposed in our hearts according to Paul.
George Mueller prayed in his closet for things for needy orphans. By the time he died he was running a multi-million dollar operation out of his closet without asking anyone but God for the needs of the orphans.
George also stated that churches who ask for money are not living by faith in God to take care of their needs.
When a preacher says you will be cursed with a curse if you don't bring the tithes into the storehouse (his church) then it's time to find another church that believes that God will provide for them without harassing their members for money.
Tithing for Christians is considered bondage because preachers say you are cursed by God.
God wouldn't curse his Christian children.
Thanks,
TT

It is for the church but you also needs to do what is comfortable for YOU. 10% is a lot for us so one way I try to help out is by getting involved. It makes me feel good when I don't have a lot of extra cash.
Hi Tb,

The tithing is Old Testament, so don't allow anyone to badger you or berate you about tithing, if they do, then they are out of step with our Lord Jesus Christ.

You give with a GRATEFUL HEART.

The tithing in the OT times is basically the social security system of welfare payments to the needy. etc, etc, which is the same as the Welfare/Social Security System of the government.

You pay taxes and the old and needy are being looked after the government through your taxes for welfare.

You have medical expenses for your family, you pay taxes, you have to feed your family, and need running expenses to maintain your family. The storehouse of the OT times provided those things for those who were in need and the Levites and the Priests, who were not paid.

Malachi is about the the Levites not paying their dues to the Priests.

So don't let any pastor berate or badger you by using Malachi to make you feel guilty and shame, because the guilt and shame will fall onto their head by false teaching.

ANYONE, who says that you have to pay 10% of your gross wages before tax and all other expenses is teaching FALSE DOCTRINE.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

Good question. Speaking for me personally, I use a tenth as a guide and do support my church with it. But, I know many who for them 10% is a drop in the bucket and for others it means some bills dont get paid. Giving is a matter of the heart and not the calculator. Pray about what God would have you do.

Tithing to me is trusting in God. Trusting in God is an all the time thing, doesn't matter about NT or OT. You trust that if you give your money to your church or anywhere else that God leads you to, that He will provide all your needs. You have to think more in a "God owns it all" mindset I believe. He owns everything, all the houses, all the money, all the material things. If you need it, He will provide. So tithe where you feel led to, make sure your church is doing well, and just do what you feel is right, and trust in Him. Then you will be rewarded in heaven. But that's my $0.02.
