She does have trouble with wiping so that could be the problem. I haven't noticed it as much latley until today. Today she desribed it as hurting and she made it clear she didn't wipe very good. I talked to her some today about encourgaging her to take a shower and she said she would give it a try.

As for beating or spaking or whatever, that will not take place no matter what the cause is. If it's itching we will take care of that. If it's curiosity, we will talk about it, she is only 5 and all kids go through the curious stage.

I am going to call her dr. in the morning and just see if they can recomend any OTC cream or if they want to call her something in. I think it may be more along the lines of irritation.

What if you actually did have an actual itch? You would still get beaten?

Yes. I think they were concerned that if we scratched ourselves down there quite innocently due to an itch we might find it enjoyable and so learn to touch ourselves for bad reasons too.
I think they were right to deter touching, but I think my parents' belief in beatings was wrong and there are better ways.

My 5 year old daughter seems to be as she says "itching" a lot. She says it's her bottom but it's in the front. I think it's more that she has discovered her area and how it feels. I have talked with a few others who have mentioned it is completely normal for them to be curious.

Haven't read the other replies.

She could be itching down there. DD (6) does it a good bit. She has very sensitive skin there so we put baking soda in her bath quite frequently to keep her from getting irritated down there. I'd talk to her Dr. about it.
