  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We believe God instituted a Church with a Pope, and Protestants don't. Do they worship a different God, or do they just have a mistaken view of the same God?

"[...] the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God [...]"

That is non-negotiable Church teaching.

The Church believes Peter was the rock, there was no such word or title of Pope in the New testament time period.

I agree with this, and I don't see why a Catholic would want to engage in Fundamentalist thinking on this matter.

Jesus said:
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Do you deny this ?

Poor analogy. Is the Islamic God Triune and do they believe that Jesus and God are one ? If they don't, then they are not worshiping the same God.

Muslims also read the Koran, which is not accepted by either Christians or Jews. If you feel they worship the same God, the ergo the Koran should be acceptable for Christians to read.

What the? They do not worship our God in the Triune form, but they attempt to worship the God of Abraham, so they make an effort to worship the True God. They imperfectly worship Abraham's God, and they have an imperfect text. But saying that they attempt to worship the same God that we worship in no way means the Qur'an is a text for Christians to read.

the god of islam was made up by Mohhamed
Mohammed did not make up the God of Abraham, he just made up a whole bunch of false stuff about the God of Abraham. BIG difference.

Are there really this many Catholics that deny what the Church teaches in her Catechism?

"Pope" is a word that carries meaning -- it signifies a concept that was indeed present in the New Testament time period when Jesus designated Peter as the rock and the holder of the keys.

You evaded the question Rawson by posing another.
And you evaded his question -- maybe because you know full and well that the Jews worship God of Abraham even though they don't believe Jesus is God or even the Messiah.

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well.

I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

Wall of quotes... nothing to address any of my statements, and nothing to say about clear disagreement with definitive Church teaching as found in the Catechism.

Was Mohammed a wolf? Definitely. Maybe even like a hyena, or coyote, or a vulture/hawk/rabid dog blend. Did he invent a new deity? No. He just made up a bunch of junk about the God of Abraham.

I don't think Mohammad thought he was inventing a new deity.

Read Romans 11, it goes into detail regarding Israel's hardened hearts. But Paul tells us a secret.

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, 26 and in this way[e] all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion;
he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
27 And this is[f] my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”[g]

I think the main problem is that so many get involved in the theological aspects of things that it tends to leave who Jesus is & what His mission was along with Sacred Scripture. I'll be honest, if I'm going to choose between Scripture & the CCC. I'm going with Scripture.

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

That it does.

Theology is one thing but to get lost in the mechanics of it leaves Jesus & who He is out in the cold the majority of the time. I know who He said He is. I have to go with that & all that implies as far as this subject goes.

I'll choose to align with what the Church teaches by all means necessary... and I can tell you, that will never include abandoning or contradicting Scripture.

It's just simple logic that if two people's beliefs about one entity oppose each other, it doesn't mean they are perceiving two different entities. Like... come on, people.

That was my point in posting scripture. I was hoping that they would read it. Paul discussed the Jews. Jesus was a Jew, Paul was a Jew, all the Apostles were Jews. Paul discusses those Jews that hardened their hearts, but he warned us not to be haughty, that he was telling us a secret, that the Jews would be grafted back on to the vine.

The wall of words also tells us, that the only way to the father is through Christ Jesus, he is the way, the truth and the life.

I don't castigate Muslims, I am sure if they never heard the word or are sincere in their hearts, then Christ will have mercy.

Ask a Muslim if we worship the same God. See what their answer would be. ;)

We acknowledge the truths in Islam. Nothing more. As far as I'm concerned he took the God of Abraham & gave Him a makeover. Add the fact that they do not even believe Jesus died on the cross & rose again.

Well if that is the case, we are to be pitied. Scripture says as much.

As far as I know, I don't have to believe anything other than recognizing the truths. When it veers off into crazy land & rejects Christ for who He is.... you lose me.

Call me a cafeteria catholic but there it is.
