  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think or have been told or read that the Muslim Allah and out God are the same. Maybe the Catechism says - I don't know. I would like to know if Pope Benedict or any Pope has spoken Ex Cathedra on this. Opinions on such are exactly that. IMO their God and the God I worship are not the same period. Hoping someone here has the answer and will give link to Ex Cathedra on Muslim god and my God being same or say there isn't one. :) Thank you much.

Edit: For those who wanna know about Ex Cathedra:

the muslims worship what they believe to be the God of Abraham, the one true god and maker of the universe

because of this it is offten thought that they worship the same god as we do
the emphasise on the oneness of god and that his was are above our ways are ideas in both christianity and islam
I think arguments can be made for both, that it is the same god or that it is a differant god

"Allah" is the Arabic word for "God" .

If you attended a Catholic Eucharist in Arabic you would hear "Allah" for "God" .
yes but if a pagan was praying to the Cerrnnunus the horned god and was just calling him god, you would not say that since it is the same word we are praying to the same thing?

Then the question is about what Muslims are praying to when they pray to God, not if Allah and God are the same. Allah and God are the same as Dios and Deus.

Jews, Christian, and Muslims all seek to serve the one God of Abraham.

Some people think Obama is an anti-christian, demon-led puppet. Others think he is a nice guy trying to to the best he can for the country. Do these two groups perceive different people, or do they just have varied opinions about one and the same Barack Obama?

well on one hand, the god of the Koran was the god of Abraham and the creator of heaven and earth
on the other hand they reject Jesus Christ
and I think Jesus says that those who do not know Him do not know the Father who sent Him

The sections on The Church and Non-Christians in the CCC begin on 839ff, and I believe are intended to be conciliatory, recognizing man's search for truth and proclaiming that the Gospel is indeed the fullfilment of that search. The section on Islam says:

"The plan of salvation includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."

So the intent of the Church seems to be to identify our similarities so as to form a bridge towards good relations and possible evangelization.

That's my question. If Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God are all ONE, then how can you worship God and deny Jesus? Aren't they one and the same?

Like in this bible verse:
1 John:
23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

It shows they are one in the same. You can't worship one with-out the other.

They attempt to worship the God of Abraham, who is our God. It's not as if they outright reject Jesus. They believe he was born of Mary and was a prophet. They like the Gospels, the Torah, and the Psalms. They worship our God imperfectly, but they still worship our God.

so that would mean it is not correct to say that we worship the same god as the jews and the muslims

If God commands us to worship and accept Jesus as ONE with Him, then we must do that. If someone else is worshiping a God who does NOT expect us to accept Jesus as one with Him--then I don't see how it can be the same God, because God never contradicts Himself.

Bible verse: Hebrews 13:
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

We believe God instituted a Church with a Pope, and Protestants don't. Do they worship a different God, or do they just have a mistaken view of the same God?

"[...] the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God [...]"

That is non-negotiable Church teaching.

So, you're saying that's the same thing as denying Jesus is Lord God? Not sure what you mean.

It's not the 'same thing', it's 'similar'. It's similar in that both Protestants and Muslims have different beliefs about the same God that we believe in.

But, the bible says we MUST obey God and His teachings or we're not followers of Him. And since God never lies, then some might be deluded into thinking they are following our God, when they are not.

Matthew 7:
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

In this passage, many felt they were following God, but they were not. Otherwise, they wouldn't of been rejected by God. Because if they were following Him--they would believe (and proclaim) that Jesus is God.
