• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question about abortion.

If you don't fit in that category, I'd like to thank you for being judgement and unable to view things from a subjective point of view.

I have no problem being in the latter catagory. I am not afraid to acknowledge the heinous nature of the murder of an innocent child, nor am I afraid to call out those who would advocate such a course in the blasé fashion that you employ.

If you fit in that catagory you will answer for that on your day of judgment, if not before. What I say about the issue is rather immaterial as it is not me to whom you will answer.

In the meantime, you would do well to remember that it was you who came into a CHRISTIAN forum asking for advice on how to persuade someone to sin. That shows either a marked lack of intelligence on your part or an utter lack of respect for those whose intelligence you insult with such a ridiculous request.

Sorry if you've already explained it, but what's the problem with adoption? It might not be so quick or aesthetic in terms of removing any issues associated with the pregnancy, but it's just as permanent and final in the long run.

If u are in the US, men have no rights - PERIOD. Whether that should be or not is irrelevant, it is a fact.

If u are still here, why do you believe adoption immoral>

Now, let's assume abortion is not immoral. Nevertheless, she believes it is immoral. Your asking that your conscience should be appeased by refusing adoption, while her's be torture by proceeding with abortion is difficult to understand.

I would hope further u understand that anyone with multiple sexual partners (male or female) outside of marriage is falling short of the Christian ideal.

I somehow doubt that the Christian Ideal is entirely pertinent. However, I do agree to a point with everything else you've said here.

I just want him to understand this is not what we hold as ideal behaviour on the part of a Christian.

BTW your quote about being reconciled to an unlovely object sounds almost verbatim of something CS Lewis wrote in "Mere Christianity"

I do support her, I support her a 100% in whatever decision she makes. The problem I'm having is the fact that should she have the child, and should the child be mine, there's no chance for adoption, that's my child and my responsibility to take care and bring it up in this world.

Due to my convictions about that though, I'll literally be ruined. I just took a job in another state, but I'll have to turn it down and seek new employment closer to her in order to take care of the baby.

It's just such a hard thing to deal with because of the fact that she and I can't/won't be together

Just on the level of logic, this doesn't make sense.

The fact that she's pregnant isn't enough for you to be responsible for the kid, so why not encourage her to put the kid up for adoption? You'd have the peace of mind knowing that the child will end up in a home that wants a child (something neither you nor your ex seem prepared to give), and your ex would not feel that she's committed a murder.

Simple enough.

That, and it's pretty atrocious to try to talk someone into an abortion. Before you have sex is the time to talk about what you'll do should an accidental pregnancy occur if you're going to be responsible about things. That way you'd know what she would do and you could make an informed decision about having sex at all.

If the baby is his, then the problem is that the baby is his…He has a feeling and belief that he is responsible to provide, nurture, and protect the baby. But he is not in a position to do so.

How can you say that he wants to "protect" the baby, when he's asking her to have an abortion? If he cared about the well being of the child, he wouldn't want it dead. Adoption is a great alternative. He just doesn't want anyone to find out that he gave a baby up for adoption. Especially if he got married (to someone else) and decided to have kids and they found out about it. Not such a good thing.

You asked for our opinion...a christian opinion... and when you get it then we're being judgemental. Who says we didn't view things from a subjective point of view? Because we did not give you the answers you were hoping to get or the pity, then we're looked as judgemental. :( Who says that the people you encountered here have not been through the same thing and want to give insight. Were you expecting a pat on the back and pray that she got an abortion?

Ha, I got it from "The Problem of Pain" I believe. ;) Either that, or "The Abolition of Man" ... can't remember which off-hand.

I agree.

I think that encouraging the adoption was very useful information.

Oh, and about murder, God has already placed His judgement on it. Maybe you just don't want to hear it?

Just wanted to comment on this, though I am not arguing against your points. The case in question here is not an "accidental" pregnancy. It's an unplanned pregnancy. Getting pregnant from having sex is not an accident. It is the normal means of impregnation.

I only make this comment because I've heard unplanned pregnancy referred to in this way before and it is a bit misleading.

God bless

For the benefit of the OP, who appears to view my comments as judgmental, which they surely are, I offer one piece of background information.

I have a daughter out of wedlock. I am not with my daughter's mother, and have not been since her birth. My daughter is truly one of the most magnificent blessings God has ever graced me with and I cannot imagine how empty my life would be without her. Her smile lights up my heart in a way that nothing and no one else can. I do not know why the Lord blessed me with a beautiful, healthy daughter when I was living a sinful lifestyle. I just know that He did. He has given me the grace to understand that my daughter is truly His gift to me. All who have the unique pleasure of encountering my daughter understand that the world is a better place for her presence.

I will tell you that there have been many times over the last 8½ years that I have disliked having to deal with the complications of dealing with my daughter's mother, someone with whom I have had an often difficult time engaging. There have been rough times and there have been peaceful times. Regardless of what I may encounter as a result of my ungodly decision to engage in sex outside of the bonds of holy matrimony, the very thought of an abortion of convenience, which is what you're advocating, is thankfully something from which the Lord protected me.

Looking at my beautiful daughter, who just now came and asked me what I'd like to drink with dinner (it's her turn to set the table), I, once again, feel filled with joy that the Lord has deigned to bless me with a beautiful daughter who loves me dearly.

Why should you not have an abortion? Well, to simplify things, who would ask you what you want to drink with your dinner? I pray that you get my point.

Likewise, I pray that you feel the gravity of my convicition and know that it is not just the senseless ramblings of some out of touch zealot. I live the life of a man who experiences the love of a child from a broken home. Trust me, it is surely worth it.

I pray that God gives your heart the conviction to love this child instead of murdering it.

God bless

At the age of 16, I became pregnant. I was a Christian, but obviously wasn't living the Christian lifestyle at the time. I chose to give my baby for adoption, because I couldn't give her what I knew she needed: two parents; a loving, stable home; etc... The father wanted nothing to do with me or the baby and walked out when he found out I was pregnant. Thank the Lord that I became friends with a wonderful Christian couple who were in town visiting a friend of my mother. I later found out that they were unable to have children and I asked them if they would adopt my baby - they gladly agreed. We have a very open relationship and are still in contact after 11 years. In a sense, I gave my baby what I couldn't have otherwise. I know the Lord had his hand in the whole thing, because I couldn't have done it otherwise. They named her Destiny!

This story, and the one above it, I found to be incredibly inspiring. :)

It's definitely a testament to God's grace that people like you two exist.

Adoption 100%, Abortion, do not go there friend. Trust this from someone who many years ago allowed his 16 year old girlfriend to be pressured into one by her older sister and mother. The guilt and shame never leaves you, and you feel sooooooo bad when ever you hear the word. I was blessed to find God 10 years ago and so did this girlfriend who is now my wife. We both finally feel forgiven but still remember the horrible mistake we made. I should have stood up and refused it to happen but I was afraid my parents would find out. Friend I plead with you do not let or pressure this girl to terminate this child you will regret that decission the rest of your life, let this child be born and go to a loving family.

I now have been totally blessed by God, He has given my wife and me 4 beautiful, intelligent girls who all love Him and their parents very much. As this child may not even be yours please do not pressure her as it would not be yours to have an opinion. Do the right thing and support this girl, if you find out that this child is not yours then I guess you will get the freedom you want.

How remarkable that you are married - that doesn't often happen. I'm also so glad to hear that you feel God's forgiveness. God bless

I am glad you came to accept Jesus as Messiah. To be forgiven our sins is a wonderful thing. To all the people who have taken part in abortion, I hope you also come to accept Jesus and know the peace that His forgivness brings. :groupray:

Good point. I'm going to defend my use of "accidental", however, in that people who are actively avoiding getting pregnant are usually using birth control of some type, so the failure of the birth control is an "accident" (whether that be user error, or just the risk of that particular type of birth control).

My parents, for example, really would have been better off financially had they waited a bit after getting married before getting pregnant. They did their best, but my brother was accidentally conceived. I was accidentally conceived not to long after, which makes me think it was probably user error in their case.

I see your point, but I don't think it makes my word choice completely wrong. :)
