Who claimed I wasn't sympathetic?
You suggested that my being sympathetic toward bisexuals is bias in favor of them. You also said that you are unbiased on this issue. If sympathy means bias to you, then it sounded like you were saying that you are unsympathetic, since you said you are unbiased.

how can't they exist?
It's complicated. If the religious right can convince their sheep that all of us "deviants" choose our "perversion" then they can argue that we can choose not to live in "perversion".

FWIW, I realised that I was bisexual a little while ago. There was no choice involved in it, I just realised that I was attracted to some men as well as some women. And there was no experimentation involved either. I've been happily dating, and now engaged to, a wonderful young lady, and I've absolutely no intention of cheating on her with anyone, male or female. I just happen to be bisexual.

I don't know if I can help to answer any of your other questions, but please ask away.

David.

I think that even more than gay people, bisexuals have negative stereotypes heaped on them and much misunderstanding. People often assume that bisexuals are unfaithful, obsessed with sex, swingers, people who are on the fence and cannot make up their minds, untrustworthy. Many heterosexuals dislike gay people, or the idea of gay people, but they often dislike the idea of bisexuals even more. Bisexuals often appear ambiguous to many people, and that often makes people uncomfortable.

Which is one of the few reasons I let people assume I'm either straight or gay.

People aren't tortured by absurdities. They are tortured because they recognize something is wrong and they find it difficult to deny.
No, they're tortured because conservative christians are frequently jerks to them.

Bisexuals aren't attracted to all humans, just a select few (like heterosexual men to females). Maybe he hadn't encountered a guy he liked, and when he did, he realised he was bisexual. Of course, I can't answer for him personally, but this is a possible scenario.

i have a few bisexual friends, and they say that gender doesn't matter to them. the person is more important than whether they are male or female.
That's my belief. I consider myself bisexual, because I don't understand why you would choose not to have a relationship with someone simply because of an organ between their legs.

That, and the fact that I find myself attracted towards both genders ...

It wasn't really something that had ever occurred to me before. I just realised that there were men that I found attractive - mainly men who appear in various TV programmes (David Tennant, John Simm, Milo Ventimigliam etc), and I realised that saying, "I'm heterosexual, but I fancy {insert name of mancrush here}" didn't really make sense. So I decided to just be honest and say, okay, I'm bisexual. Maybe not very bisexual (for what it's worth, I'm not sure that I can imagine myself in a situation of physical intimacy with another man, although as I've said, that's pretty academic anyway), but enough that labelling myself "heterosexual" didn't really make sense any more.
