• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm glad the x-rays were clear - that must be a relief Praying that they can get to the bottom of it and sort it out - coughing all the time is so exhausting, it's the last thing you need!
This is just a thought, I don't know how your schools work, but there was an autistic lad, Ryan, in one of my children's class at primary school, they were about Andrew's age, maybe a year older, and he was being bullied. The teacher arranged for Ryan to do something outside the class one day, and got in a lady who works with autistic and aspergers children, and she explained to the class how it affects someone, and the things that they struggle with. Almost all of the kids were in tears by the end of it, and after that there were always kids wanting to play with Ryan, and helping him if he was feeling bad.
I don't know whether Andrew's teacher could do something similar - kids are incredibly compassionate when they know why someone is struggling or seems a little different.

Praying for you and for Andrew, Court, and for Andrew's teacher as she deals with the issues involved God won't let him down!

I absolutely love that idea Criada! I will have to check with his teacher and the school counselor to see if they could even do something like that. It sounds like it would make an amazing difference!

It seems that Andrew did have a good day (THANK YOU LORD!) as he is happy -albeit a bit rambunctious. He did get in trouble at recess though because he was looking for someone to play with and a boy wanted to wrestle him, so he did and they both got in trouble. Thank God neither one got hurt!

Thank you all for the continued prayers! It means so much to me. My hubby is working 'til midnight tonight so I need extra prayers for protection (I hate being home "alone" even though we have a really good security system!)

Praying this morning that our Lord will protect Andrew all day and that he has a wonderful day at school and that God will give him confidence and strength. I get to see Andrew at lunch today and then go in for my doctor's test.

Thank you all again for the prayers. It means a lot to me!

I think Criada's idea sounds excellent! Also, I don't if this could be anything helpful or not about your cough. But, are you on any blood pressure meds? I have had a number of friends who have had to change their BP med because a certain one was making them cough. Sorry, I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, this may not apply to your problem at all, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Praying that Andrew has another good day - and that you do as well!

Thank you Sweetheart! Just got back from lunch with Andrew. He was in fairly good spirits, but cried when I had to leave. I am now off to see my doc about the whooping cough test. Praying I can get in and out of the doctor's office quickly so I can be on time to pick up Andrew. He will flip out if I am not there at my regular time although I told him several times today that I may be late. He just said that he would be really scared if I wasn't on time. I re-assured him that I would be there to get him, maybe just a bit later, but I could tell he was worried.

Thank you rowantree! I made it on time to get Andrew and it seems he had a good day...he's not talking much so it's hard to tell, but he isn't in tears either which is good!

It's supposed to be stormy tomorrow and Andrew will have a subsitute. Praying for a good day!

I will get my results back Friday to see if I have whooping cough. Boy, the nose swab they do really gets you. It felt like they were digging for brain tissue (yuck!)!

Off to do homework, bath and bedtime.

I appreciate you all so much! You are in my prayers every night!

Well I found out last night that Andrew was chasing a boy at recess because he wants to be his friend. The other boy didn't understand and pushed Andrew a few times. Andrew is pretty upset about it. We had a long talk about how to be someone's friend.

I am praying today goes well for him with the rain and the subsitute teacher - they both stress him out!

Hi Court. It must be so difficult for Andrew when he keeps having a substitute teacher. I can understand his stress. Also, sad that that happened when Andrew was trying to get the other boy to be a friend. Praying that both of them get to understand things a bit better and praying that Andrew can find a really nice friend at school. It is so hard sometimes isn't it, and school can really be so difficult for kids. I do pray though, that he can have some wonderful experiences there and that these outweigh the bad ones.

Praying for all of you Court. xx

Hi rowantree! Yes, it is difficult for Andrew to keep having a subsitute. His regular teacher is on a few of the school board panels so she keeps having to go for meetings. I am praying that he isn't to stressed about the change today.

I too am praying that Andrew can find a good friend at school. I have talked to his teacher and the school counselor about Criada's idea and they said they would, "look into it". I really hope they can make it happen as the other kids just don't understand him and think he is, "weird" because he is different.

I feel bad because when I dropped him off this morning he said he had a tummy ache. It's so hard to tell if it's from stress or if he is sick. I told him to tell the teacher that he needs to go to the nurse if it gets worse.

Just praying for him to have a good, safe, happy day!

Awww, Court. Bless his little soul. I do hope he is OK today.

That is great that they are at least thinking about Criada's idea. Wow - at least they are open and not totally closed to ideas. Awww. Let us go on praying that dear Andrew is O.K. and that he can make friends. It is amazing sometimes how a kid will come along who does not make any judgements on whether another kid is a bit different or not and just goes ahead and plays with that kid. Let us hope and pray that happens with Andrew.

God bless you all Court. xx

Thanks rowantree! Your prayers are so appreciated! Today has turned out to be cold, windy and rainy. Just the type of day that Andrew struggles with. I keep thinking of him and wondering how he's doing with the subsitute and his poor little tummy. I have one hour before I can get ready to get him!

Awww, Court. I am so sorry that Andrew had a bad tummy. Let us hope that it was nothing much. Maybe just a bit of nerves? I used to get tummy ache with nerves sometimes. He is obviously going through a very stressful time right now regarding school, and hopefully it will get better as time passes. It is all such a new experience for him. It will be so scary sometimes. I remember being just so scared when I started school, and tummy ache was often the order of the day ! Praying Court. xx

Praying that something good happens today for Andrew to distract from the weather and the substitute!
It sounds as though school are willing to try to find ways to help him - that's great!!
Praying for you, Court - you are such a great mother!! God bless you.

Thanks so much you guys! I love you!

Andrew had a GOOD day! At least that is what he is saying so far. He said the subsitute was nice! Yea!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You Lord!

The only problem is that she sent home books for the kids to read with a card attached for the parents to sign that they actually read the book. Well, attached to the card is a Pixie Stick (as a reward). The subsitute made a big deal out of the kids getting Pixie Sticks for doing their homework. She is clearly out of the loop with Andrew and no sugar. I told him he could trade the Pixie Stick for a really cool sticker and he got really angry. He locked himself in the bathroom and somehow managed to cover the sink and floor in standing water! So, it's already been a challenging evening and I am not his favorite person right now as I made him clean up the mess.

Oh dear Court. Oh how hard it is when Andrew can't have candy like the others, I am not surpised he was angry. Not that it helps when you had the flood in the bathroom!
Is there any way at all that the message can be got through to substitute teachers? Does his regular teacher leave any notes for the substitute teachers? That might be an idea if his teacher could do that maybe? Not sure how schools go on, but surely there must be a way of informing substitute teachers of any different circumstances for any particular child?

Wish I could get over there with a mop and bucket and help you clear up Court !!! (Oh, I just saw - you got Andrew to clear it up!!!)

so sorry Andrew got so angry, and it is hard for you, but so understandable. Praying still.

Thanks rowantree and Criada! Yes, rowantree I asked his teacher this morning to PLEASE leave a note for any subsitutes about not giving andrew candy!

Turns out last night he was telling me he didn't really have a good day yesterday. It's a long story, but the zipper on his jacket broke in the lunchroom and he went wandering around looking for the pieces and the lunchroom attendants didn't know what he was doing and made him stand up against the wall and miss recess for wandering around the lunchroom!

When I dropped him off this morning he was crying and begging me not to leave him. It absolutely broke my heart! I hate this! I need him to have a good day today and he needs it too!

to top it all off our little dog is sick. She was up all night throwing up and won't eat. I'll be taking her to the vet soon.
