Does anyone have a cat who purrs as a warning that he or she is angry? Mine has a purr for all seasons, but the angry one is the loudest and can almost be described as staccato.

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No. I've had many cats, and none of them did this. Some cats purr louder than others, and usually they purr when they are wanting to relax. Even though a cat is purring, this doesn't mean they aren't easily ignited to defense, or anger. It happens in a split second!

Mine actually does! When you hear that particular purr, and her tail is swishing in a wide arc, watch out. She does *not* want to be petted. Lol.

But growling is from the throat, right? This reasonates throughout her entire body. I know, it's the weirdest thing. It feels like her other purrs, only more abrupt. Is that still a growl?

Cats purr for all reasons -- happy, relaxed, fearful, angry -- it's quite a universal kitty sound when their emotions are going a mile a minute.

hmm..that would be a good name for a cat..Multiplicity! I have heard cats do that, but its usually been more of a growl. Is it a loud purr?High or low pitch? Sounds highly irritated..lol

Mine purrs when she's in trouble sometimes and sometimes when she's nervous (and sometimes both!

I especially like how you made sure to include the whistling of the air through the nose part. rolf....That makes for quite a visual! I've heard that they purr when they are happy, scared or in pain. The latter two to calm themselves. A mother cat will purr when she gives birth.

My cat is my alarm clock. She purrrs differently when she wants me to get up. It's almost frantic. Like a faked smile on a human face.
