  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I bet they are very cute-I would love to have two black lab puppies. I dont know much about training dogs, but I've watched a friend of mine who is good. She tells her dogs no and pushes them down firmly but gently. She rewards good behaviors with doggie treats. For example, when they are barking she tells them to be quiet. If one is quiet, she gives him a treat. It was interesting to see the other get quiet quickly for a treat!

Just be consistent with them. Keep pushing them off the counters and telling them no. Then tell them to sit once they're off the counter and reward them with a treat. That way they learn that it's better to sit next to the counter (and possibly get a treat) than to jump up (and get yelled at). Keep food off the counter as well. That could be enticing them. The biggest thing is to be consistent. If everyone in the house doesn't follow the exact same training rules, they will learn who they can manipulate and it will take them longer to learn what you want.

One trainer suggested rigging the counter or table with sealed off aluminum cans filled with pennies, and other noisy items that they'd knock off and scare themselves sensless with. I don't know how well that would work. I tried using the "shaker can" technique to discipline a dachshund I once had. The principle is that the sealed off can full of pennies should be shaken, along with a firm "NO!" when the puppy does wrong. Well, the little twerp turned out to like the shaker can, and it ended up being a toy... :sigh:
