Sounds interesting! But how would one chose those non-staffers from the CF population? also, geography should be taken into account. A member from the USA would certainly think entirely different about a problem than someone from Europe or Asia (or Oz for that matter!)

I think so too. I'm from 'the South' (American Southeast) and where I come from, we don't think anything of little off-color words. They aren't in the filter but one mod about charred my hide over using one--not as an insult, it was just an expression!

I had "it" downgraded on a technicality--the mod, however, hasn't given me an answer re: acceptable language, so I don't know what usage is really acceptable here.

It's a good thing I'm not from New York City, or I might have to refer to a certain neighborhood as "Heck's Kitchen", lest the wrathful moderator claim my soul.

Oh, and while we're talking about geography, I've just got one question for Erwin:

WHICH WAY DOES THE WATER TURN IN YOUR TOILET?

:D

Ahh, yes, just where exactly to draw that line? That is always the puzzling question. What will keep the most people happy at least some of the time? I am happy to hear that the rules are getting an examination, and hopefully, something easier to administer will come about it all. I am all for free speech, and as long as it doesn't become a personal attack on anyone.

hello Erwin, this is my own opinon that we should be free to say whatever we have to say. as christians, we should not have any kind of rules. we are under God's rules. we can always put on ignor list if someone is intorelable to respond. ( i have many of them.)

we have our own opinion of what is rude or unloving. actually we are not tolerant of the straight words. we love sugarcoated words. we should let God decide if we are loving or not loving . thanks. i hope you read mine too.
Sorry but this is way over the line with ......

"Well Hey people I am just here and I have a point to make and you all should be able to deal with it, even if it is rude and nasty, because my intentions are good, really they are, and well I am sorry if you can't see that, but cowboy up, because I shouldn't have to take ANY responsibility for what I say or do in the name of the Lord"

UMM, in the famous words of a friend of mine lately, "no way" !!!!

I mean seriously people since when did the Lord NOT also make us responsible for how we preach the Gospel to others? Since when is it OK to hurt others, be nasty to others, ect, just so that we can get the word of God across?

Yes, we are to speak the Truth to people that but that does not mean that we are negated from our responsibility as to HOW we represent the LORD....

Human frailty, is going to dictate that, you are going to have people that, in their interpretation of things, they will abuse the rules and they will abuse power, this thought does not mean that the rules here are invalid. I agree, that maybe some streamlining of the rules needs to be done... BUT of the two rules that I DO NOT think need to be streamlined one bit, are rules ONE and TWO, as those are the rules most often abused so highly here.... That in itself should say something.

I think the refinement needs to come on the behalf of the Moderation staff, as to making sure things are more clearly defined, as to what is and what is not breaking those two specific rules, not that we should do away with them, so that some here may have free reign to say whatever they wish whenever they wish with no consequences for their actions.... That people is not reality ....

again let just God do the judging.

Again that is not what is told to us in the Bible is it?

It does effectively tell us that we also have to live by the secular rules

IMHO, I am finding it offensive that some, not all, are trying to use GOD and the BIBLE as an excuse to be able to get away with behaviour they know is obviously not right, and so that they will not have to follow the rules set up by this site's Owner.... IMHO, I find it offensive that you have a man that dedicates his life to trying to make this a better place for us, and has made a public apology to us all and instead of waiting to see the changes of which are going to be instituted to the existing rules .... YOU WANT NO RULES whatsoever....

IMHO, that it not showing our gratitude for even having this site, for which we should be grateful for....

I do think debiwebi has a point, (well several actually :) ) I like being on a board where a certain level of civility has to be maintained and people are watching to make sure it happens. :)
tulc(who could be quite rude if mrs.tulc and the mods weren't there to keep and eye on him!) :sorry:

And so do I... I think this helps us all and in general I do not think that the rules are that cumbersome.;) They simply help us to remember to remain Christianlike in the first place.

Tea and crumpets sound lovely, thanks. ;)

Here are some crumpets! :)

On the whole rule thing, while I like CF and really appreciate the effort put in, I just think Erwin and the mods make a rod for their own back with the rules. Civility is all that is needed. Any lack of civility can be dealt with easily. Interpreting what is civil and what is not is far easier for both poster and mod than having to deal with the current complicated tangled murky rule system.

BTW, what's a crumpet?

The dictionary says: "A small flat round of bread, baked on a griddle and usually served toasted"
It apears to be this

Cuirrently,
I think the only thing that really needs to be changed is that when you are dealing with a situation that involves you and the Moderators, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes in which you cannot have any input on ..... I think this process needs to be changed.

I think we should be more included in the whole process.

Example....

You have an Appeal up .... you are having a discussion with the person that is making the decision.... but you are not privy whtsover to the discussions that are going on behind the scenes and considering that they directly involve YOU in this matter I think that YOU should be privy to them as well.... I mean they have full disclosure to everything you are saying in the appeal because they at anytime can come into your appeal and read what you have written but you do not have the same priveledge to see what is being said back .... So, therefore, as it stands now it is more like you are guilty until you can prove yourself innocent .....

If we have a system that allows us to appeal the decisions then make it so that it is fair on both ends of the spectrum .... allow full disclosure on both sides not just one, because then what happens is that then the questions that are asked of the member in the appeal can be geared towards the favor of the Moderator and upholding the decision and we would not even know it....

I think so too! Whenever I'm putting in for an appeal, I feel like I'm approaching an ivory tower for them to throw down a scrap of bread.

It's worse when you're banned from the site because the function of the site is so badly crippled, you can't do anything. It's impossible to communicate personally with the staff.

Also, I think more effort should be put into enforcing rules fairly across the board.

I was party to a case where a person in Denomination-Y said that the lead bishop of Denomination-X wasn't recognized as a bishop by DY because he teaches heresy. She said this in the DY congregation forum, and received a warning and a three-week suspension.

Around the same time, a person in DX proclaimed that the people of DY had committed heresy. He did this in the DX congregation forum.

Not a DARNED THING happened to him. I reported that post personally and it was NEVER touched.

Maybe it's because DX has a much larger representation among members and staff, or because the offending DX member happens to also be a senior staff member. I just think it was really unfair for the poor Denomination Y member who spent three weeks in the leper colony!

But thanks again for setting us Americans straight on that whole crumpet thing.
