Ok well if there's a thread about these 2 portable systems already, I don't care. ;) Who here is getting one of these 2? I think both of them are awesome personally, as they both have loads of cool new features never seen before. I played a display DS model in Best Buy yesterday and the touch screen and graphics look amazing. However, the PSP has some cool features and looks to have even better graphics and games. The WiFi support is so awesome, and the PSP looks to be online enabled as well. I'm psyched to say the least, except I have to deal out quite a bit of cash for either of these systems.

I'm going to try to find a DS on launch day. (the 21st) I pre-ordered one at Gamestop, but I'm getting the "second shipment" and gamestop has no idea when that is. So I'm hoping to find one in the stores Sunday, then I can cancel the gamestop order.

Yes. I'm all for the DS! WOOOHOOO! :D

I want to get a Nintendo DS. I probably won't though. PSP is a long ways away from coming out because of the huge battery issue.
yeah but I thought that issue had to do with the movies and not gaming. I'm still reading up on that.

Neither, since I can't find much of a use for handhelds. If I'm at work or class, can't play it. If I'm at home, I'd rather game on my computer. If I'm on some trip somewhere, I'd rather read a book or a newspaper or magazine.

That's just a rumor, cause I've heard otherwise. The psp games look awesome just like the DS games (Coded Arms looks amazing personally), so to each their own. I'm not a big fan of the whole movie thing with the psp, but I can't wait to play some of the games coming for it.

My mother said that I could have the Nintendo DS for Christmas, and it totally rocks... Comes with a built-in chat program and a Metroid Prime: Hunters demo! That is totally awesome!!

DS ALL THE WAY BABY!!
  • I'm a huge Nintendo fan!
  • And the DS is coming out before the PSP, so...I'm all for the DS...

You were misinformed my friend, the PSP will be out before the end of Sony's fiscal year, which alot believe it will be in March... I know Sony wouldnt wait almost a year to release it in the US when it is released in Japan in a few weeks......

Anyways....I have the DS already, and my PSP will be here on December 16 (Japanese version). Bad thing is....I put a 400 and some dollar dent in my wallet for both systems. I think the PSP will turn out to be my favorite as I tend to like the games on Sony consoles more. Though, the DS is so fun to play, the touch screen is awesome.

haha! DS for me! psp? psh! i'm not a big fan of Sony's, and my loyalties lie with Nintendo! the chat in the DS looks amazing, and the psp... well... not so much... Nintendo's got the handheld system genre hands down, no one can take that spot away!

"I want the DS. Sony's habit of abusing consumers makes me not inclined to get the PSP."

I have found Sony very nice....in fact they are working on my PS2 for free since it broke....I would say thats pretty decent of them...

"Nintendo's got the handheld system genre hands down, no one can take that spot away!"

Sony will be a huge competition...more console gamers will be interested in the PSP most likely as it has more console features...either way....PSP is likely to put a big dent in the DS's profits...though they will both be successful if you ask me.... Its a win-win situation, as both companies produce great products, the more competition, the less we have to pay for the products =D

Yeah. Sony is behind a large portion of the current set of "copy protection" that makes computers crash, and makes games unplayable. They are a major force in lobbying for ever more restrictive and abusive rules. They're the ones who want region coding and no-skip bits on DVDs and twenty other ways of keeping you from actually watching a movie you bought.

In short... While they occasionally do individual nice things for individual consumers, as a corporate entity, they want to make things very hard for us.

I like both the DS and the PSP, but I'm kinda tired of mario kart and repeat games like that. I wish nintendo would make something new :D

Also I saw some games for the PSP (Coded Arms, Armored Core, MGA) and I find them amazing. I just wish the PSP was here  I do thing the touchscreen was a nice edition, but I found it weird with the dual screens when Samus took up both of them in the intro. Kinda looked weird to me. Ah well, both systems look nice though I'm more of a Sony fan.

What's the expected battery life of the DS? According to Lik-Sang, it runs off the same battery as a GBA, only with two little plastic tabs moved... So I'd assume it'll be shorter than the 10 hours the GBA is supposed to be good for.

What I really want to know is how long it'll be before the third parties have replacement batteries for it. I am awfully tempted by the 28-hour GBA batteries... But to be honest, I've never worn that little box out, so I guess I don't really care. :)
