I think PSP is gonna suck. The battery life is only 3 hours! That's not a portable gaming system, that's a laptop. You gotta realize, you're gonna have to plug that thing in CONSTANTLY!

that's for movies, not for games. Games are more like 6-7 hours, which isn't too bad.

They're the ones who want region coding

If they want region coding so badly....why are they making the PSP region free??? They have allowed the developers to make games that are region protected but overall there will be no region incoding on anything but the UMD movies, so I see no push for region coding on their side....you should read up more and inform yourself on the latest PSP news..... And, as for the nice thing, everyone that needs their PS2 fixed can get it free if it is a problem with disk read errors....I have had my PS2 since the first release night and they are still fixing mine free...and many of my friends who have had problems have had theirs fixed...and their PS2s have not had a problem since......

Actually its 4 hours with a constantly streaming video with the brightness turned to full....and 6 hours minimum backlit screen, constantly streaming..... Thats pretty good actually... Really, how many people play 6 hours of portable gaming a day??? If you know you are going to be portably palying games, buy another battery....thats 8-12 hours there and that is way more than enough...

I mean on DVDs. Sony is a big force behind content restrictions, both technologically and legally.

Pretty much all DVD players and electronic devices have region encoding.... I havent seen one DVD player that hasnt had the encoding, and they arent all Sony...

Just by reading some of the things you guys are saying, some of you seem to be very misinformed.

The DS is out and honestly, its not that great. Yeah, it has some neat capabilities and unique things that separate it from previous irriterations of handheld gaming but in the end, this is Nintendo we're talking about. When is the last time they had a grandslam?

I agree...some people are very misinformed...Read up on both of them if you want at www.ign.com I have been following the latest developments for the past few months and the PSP will be more powerful, hardware wise...Though they are both awesome systems that have some cool games coming out for them.. I will probably just prefer the PSP...

The PSP is more powerful, but I'm interested in seeing what will be done on the DS. I tried the DS out in store with the Metroid Prime Hunters demo and I was very impressed by it. It controls great, runs at a very smooth framerate, and looks extremely good. I heard great things about Super Mario 64 DS. Wario Ware, Mr. Driller, Ridge Racer (though the PSP one does look better, I have no doubts that the DS one will rock), Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Kart and some others also sound very promising.

Right.

But why do they have region coding? Because some industry players mandated it.

Sony was one of the most aggressive pushers.

Likewise, Sony's music labels are among the most aggressive in pushing CD-shaped things which don't work in computer drives.

That doesnt really make sense....Sony cant control what others do.... ie. Hitachi. Hitachi could have region free DVD players to play DVDs of any region and there isnt much Sony could do about it.... The same goes for Sony/MGM....Sony can make MGM have region coded movies since they own MGM titles, but they cant force Universal to have region coding...So really its the companies choice...

Anyways...if you dont want a system just because you dont like the company...then its your loss...I think thats a pretty dumb reasoning...but ok...

I'd have to admit, though I am getting the DS that PSP does look (a little) better, but still, Metroid Prime: Hunters looks awesome, and I can't wait 'till Christmas!!!
...But I'm going to have to....
But the DS will kick PSPs but with Super Mario 64 DS it just came out!! YEH!!!

I disagree...though Mario 64 was a bestseller, Sony has the most bestselling games on their system (GTA series). There are rumors that Rockstar is producing a 3D GTA on the PSP, which will have tons of sells. Each Playstation GTA game has broken the record for bestselling game, so if and when the PSP version gets released it will have loads of sells. There are also many many Sony consumers, that will power the PSP sales. They will both sell greatly. But, for the first time, the outcome isn't necessarily leaning in favor of Nintendo.

The DS is a hyped up N64. Are you kidding me? The graphics look marginally better than the N64.

The graphics are very comparable to the N64. The resolution is alot smaller than on TVs so its bound to look better.
