Protests against Wall Street spread across US - CenturyLink™

NEW YORK (AP) — Protests against Wall Street entered their 18th day Tuesday as demonstrators across the country show their anger over the wobbly economy and what they see as corporate greed by marching on Federal Reserve banks and camping out in parks from Los Angeles to Portland, Maine.

Ok, so they are protesting the people making money, not making enough money?
I can see marching on the bailed out corps(either the abbr or the word short one letter) of businesses, but wall street?
The evil people trading stocks for money? How does the poor economy tie to wall street other then as the goats for this administration? When the economy is slow, money is slow at the market. They want safe increased trade, they want more safe money.

Funny thing, Stock brokers are like mice, you scare them they hide(themselves and thier money) and when brokers hide, they don't buy/sell, so the market goes down. So in protesting they could push the market down.

Pressure on the market will reduce the market, which will harm the economy.

At least they admit:
Some protesters likened themselves to the tea party movement — but with a liberal bent —

Class warfare and ignorance, the left focuses people on the stock market so the lambs protest the market, ignoring the reasons behind the yo-yo stock values.

Investors aren't sure of the economy so they aren't buying, which means not as much capital for companies to expand, which means little hiring.

Reasons for doubt:
1.threatened tax increases. (Who does the left want to raise taxes on? Wall street and "super rich", both of which are investors.)
2.uncertain retail sales figures
3.wars across the world
4.unstable oil prices
5.goverment debt causing devaluation of the dollar (like it has already done once.)

So how can people marching outside fix any of these problems?
I do hate admitting it, but goverment can fix some:

1. stop threatening tax increases to pay for handouts.
3. Show more achievements or milestones for the conflicts to be over. Not time tables, but positive steps towards peace.
4. Oil, this is the best, allow all oil production to resume once proven they are safe(BP), allow new drilling, producing oil produces jobs, produces revenue, encourages the stock market.
5. Stop debt spending, spend only what we bring in, and even further spend less money then we take in so we have a cushion to fall back on when we have tough times. Rainy day fund, rather then buying votes for the next election with surplus money.
Remember its guaranteed when unemployment rises, money coming in drops while demand for handouts increases.

So, tell me what good does it do to protest the stock exchange?
Maybe these people should not just do something, but stand there?

You miss the point. Wall St is the government. the govt is Wall St. the revolving door on hte Hill ensures that the govt is for Wall St, of Wall St and by Wall St. The people now see that govt will not "fix" the problem. they will only manage things to suit the interests of the financial elite as the ship goes down.

This is the most important story on this forum at present. can't believe I'm hte first to post! Hopefully the posters are out occupying something.

obviously this thread is pulling out strawman argument. Don't you understanding what they are protesting against? Federal Reserve loaned, FREE CASH WITH NO INTEREST, TRILLIONS IN DOZEN TO MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION, BANKS, AND FOREIGN BANKS. its TREASON. You should be in arms but instead you defend them with invalid economic argument which as no relevance to the corruption of wall-street and the Whitehouse.
Nice.

certainly some may be protesting those things, but that is not what is communicated by our media... all I have seen has been flocks of socialists who do not really understand the issues but protest because they are sheep who follow leaders, it is honestly quite creepy.

The Fed is the problem, corporatism is a problem, multinational banks are a problem, but I think angry people are being hijacked by the left and steered away from the real issues and sadly I don't think most of the people who are protesting have a clue what they are protesting about, and I really don't think most of them are protesting against that. I think most of them are populists, anarchists and socialists... it is not unlike the tea party which started out as a positive thing and then was hijacked by the "moral majority" which watered down their message

this is what I fear as well.
Some of the protestors look like hippies.
However, many are legit professionals as well, such as pilots who are receiving literally..minimum wage for distinguished career such as theirs...

If they're going to protest someone then they need to protest elected government officials in their voting districts, not private business employees. Private businesses only listen to their investors and their customers, not random people on the street. Ironically, its the Democrats that overwhelming favor handouts and bailouts, and I'd be willing to bet that these protesters overwhelmingly voted Democrat in the last election. Just a hunch.

You forget the bailouts began with Bush and it was his term in office that tanked the economy due to lax regulations in the sub-prime lending business. Obama was literally handed a country in a Depression. Make no mistake, this is a Depression, which takes more than a decade to recover from. It was the Bush appointee who testified to Congress that if the banks were not bailed out Wall Street would melt down. The bankers took the money and instead of reinvesting it in America awarded themselves exhorbitant bonuses and put the rest of it in offshore accounts. Do your homework.

Peace

I really don't understand what all of these protests are all about. Why are people protesting?

The Lord hears the voices of the oppressed and victims of injustice. We are his eyes and ears and his hands and feet. We should make it our duty to understand what is being said and then take appropriate action.

And you'd be hilariously wrong.
Is it opposite day and no one told me? The Occupy Wall Street is just a poor and disorganized attempt to create a liberal version of the Tea Party. Just look at their demands: Occupy Wall Street Demands. I realize it's not an official list, but pretty much everything on that list is as anti-conservative as you can get. $20 minimum wage? The current minimum wage already has minority youth unemployment at 40%, are they trying to reach 100% minority youth unemployment?

Nice.

How can we know what they are protesting about when after 20 days they are still debating their demands?

People are rather tired of the government bending over for big corporations and billionaires.

So they'll be voting third party right???

It's funny because the folks putting this on are democratic supporters and still do support the president even after all his bending over for big corporations and billionaires.
