  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God used the children of Israel for both the OT and NT to share his Word. One was delivered by Moses and the other by Jesus. Cool huh? :cool:
And both went up against the same type of "bad guys" :)

Exodus 7:1 And YWHW is saying unto Mosheh, `See!, I give thee as Elohiym to Par`oh, and 'Aharown thy brother shall be thy prophet;

Mark 14:53 And they led away the Jesus toward the Chief-priest, and are coming together to Him all the chief-priests, and the elders, and the scribes;

The hypocrites did not have the law on their hearts. Jesus said to do as they say but not as they do because they sit on the chair of Moses. They are the appointed leaders and God has them in that position. We are to follow our leaders for they are there because of God. And we cannot understand this so we try to. Some things are not for us to understand until we get to Heaven. We all have to accept that eventually.

Excellent article. I highly recommend it to everyone

Unfortunately some are too closed minded and anticatholic to even consider the Catholic point of view. So the falsehoods will continue as though we never gave this information.

Jesus told those whom did not believe in Him they were of their father the devil.. :) Only those born again are the children of God. For they are born of the Spirit of God.. Those whom are not born again have not been born of the Spirit of God.

And what verse is this from?

I'm not sure what MamaZ is talking about, but you know in John 17 (I think) where Jesus is giving the Last Supper discourse to the apostles and how He says, "I pray for you, I don't pray for the world". I take that to mean that those those He has won (in our case all baptized Christians) are His children. True everyone is created in God's image and is worthy of dignity and respect, but it'sthose of us who have been united to the family of Christ forever, by the virtue of our baptisms, who are His children.

Yes, the chapter long prayer of Jesus to the Father.

I never took that to mean that all those not called by God are not the Father's children. But rather they are the ones that belong to Christ for they are in Christ.

Jesus prays first for his disciples then for those who will believe in him through their message.

Here's the verse I was thinking of.

I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours, (John 17:9)

But it does not say that you are not a child of God or even that you are a child of God. :confused:

As stated, I find the Eucharist as the Real Presence to be where Protestants have fallen into error the greatest.

It is something that we know to be true and we have centuries of church teaching of the Eucharist. Yet for some Protestants all history before the "Protestant Reformation" is disregarded or ignored or twisted.

I showed how Martin Luther, who started the Protestant Reformation, said the Eucharist is the flesh of Christ. It was from Calvin and his personal interpretation of scripture, lacking any historical evidence, that the Eucharist became only symbolic in the minds of those that chose this teaching.

So this to me is one of the most obvious errors that has come from Protestantism and Sola (Solo) Scriptura.

It doesn't particularly worry me if you believe what you want to about communion or whatever else, but I would prefer it if you would stop going around saying how it is a Protestant error when an analysis of the Bible and the culture of the day gives general support to our position (on communion in particular).

It's just like with how Catholics have such a high regard for Mary and the saints and even believe that these dead people can intercede on their behalf (no... they're dead), particularly when the veil was torn and it is Christ who intercedes on our behalf (why would you want to go through a fellow beggar?), while I disagree with that Catholic doctrine it doesn't particularly worry me if you do or not, except when you move to enspouse that as truth (i.e. as the 'Christian position') that it annoys me and must be countered. The same is true of other Catholic doctrines like purgatory.

No one has all the answers or has it right on every theological issue, particularly the Catholic church, but also the various Protestant denominations, the Baptists, for example, place an unhealthy (IMO) importance on baptism, the SDAs on the sabbath, and the Calvinists on predestination.

I guess what I'm saying is that we are all Christians and that it is proper and right to comment on the core-doctrines as truth, but it is possibly deceitful to present secondary (subjective) doctrines as truth, when the Bible viewed through objective glasses simply doesn't support it. I believe it's okay to say, "We think..." or "We believe..." but not alright to say "The Bible says..." on such doctrines or beliefs, especially when, to be blunt, it doesn't. You can twist it anyway you want (i.e. intentionally or out of ignorance) but that doesn't make it true and disgraces God's Word.

But that they belong to Him.

The way I see it, once you're baptized, you're in the family.

The authority of the Church is not secondary.

Teaching error is dangerous.

Those who believe they are saved by faith alone are in danger.

We are saved by God's grace, but our cooperation is required if we are to endure.

These things are all important and worth pursuing with seriousness.

He is referring to the disciples, not Christians in general.

Keep reading the rest of John 17.
