The church being the bride is to be understood symbolically.

Is that what nuns and priests believe? That their "marriage" is symbolic? If so then they are free to marry literally.

I am glad I do not need to treat the bible as symbolically as folk who claim sola scriptura seem to.

The only thing that is future is the consummation. We are His Bride now.

You're married to your wife ... you're a church member ... the church is betrothed to Christ ... seems polygamous.

You seem to treat the bible worst than symbolically as you take it as an add-on to your "holy tradition".

Forget understanding line upon line and precept upon precept. Just go with holy tradition as the "end all" explanation for things you do that have no biblical basis.

You got that kind of mixed up. Sacred Tradition includes sacred scripture; both are public revelation from God.

It doesn't work that way. Catholics apply the rule of faith. Scripture is interpreted in the light of the truth revealed in and by Jesus Christ.

This is a contradictory statement. Here's why:

"does not permit" is the same as "forbid". No way around it. Therefore:





They obviously don't "forbid to marry" in general. No one said that. They forbid to marry and remain clergy, and this means that the seven sacraments cannot be observed in their entirety by one man. The Scriptures are in direct contradiction with this, however.

No sir. The priest can marry. That is the difference. The priest once he marries can still minister to people.It's not like a RC priest once he marries is no longer Roman Catholic or Orthodox. Marriage changes what you can do whether you're a Clergyman or not. If you like dating many pretty young blondes I think that should stop once you marry. Don't you? Is that forbidding one to marry? When a priest goes to his bishop to tell him he's made the decision to get married, it's not like the bishop can stop him. That would be forbidding him. The bishop can't even remove his priesthood if he marries. He can and will remove him from his post but that's known beforehand. It's a choice between two things not a prohibition. Now if one decides to marry and really wants to remain a clergyman I'm quite sure he can find many a group to accept him as such. I've been to many a Baptist church that has pastor who married after becoming a pastor. We don't handcuff our people.

Jesus is first. He taught the apostles and did not write anything that was preserved. The apostles wrote portions of the new testament. Some people who were instructed by the apostles wrote the rest of the new testament. Isn't that how it works?

No. Rev 19:7-9 is the marriage of the Lamb. This is future. Not a just a consummation.

Except that I personally am not married to Christ nor will I ever be married to Him personally. The church body is married to Christ. There is a difference.

Those are things I've heard Catholic ministers say in regards to the bible and how it fits with Holy tradition. So again I ask you, what came first as your church teaches it, holy tradition, or scripture?

Christ choose to be celibate. Paul choose to be celibate. Peter was married (wouldn't that disqualify him as Pope?). If a priest choose to be celibate that would be fine. However being told "You can't be married if you wish to be a priest" is another issue altogether.

Who said we don't recognize it? The point that is trying to be made is that Paul said the apostles themselves took wives, including Peter, and that means we have the right to as well without being disqualified for service as leaders of the church. Peter was apparently the first pope and is said to be married by Paul, yet he was not disqualified.

Peter came married. He did not take a wife after becoming an Apostle.
