  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All they need to do now is line up in the same states the legalization of prostitution, homosexuality, pot and gambling and it will be a hell of a place to live. I wonder if those states would get a influx of people migrating there. Some may see it as an attraction to lure people to live and invest. I think there is evidence for people moving to states that have legalized pot. Colorado shows an increase in people moving there for the pot. But its mostly the homeless.

I don't think the number of women being trafficked into prostitution is that high here in the US. We have a couple of raids on prostituted each year around here, the police never say there were trafficked.

I do believe legalizing prostitution would be healthier. I don't think its good to have street prostitution as that causes traffic and things going on in neighbourhoods that people don't want to see. Brothels allow both parties to wash and use protection and the prostitutes can run a safe operation.

Its interesting that prostitution isn't blanketly condemned in the OT. Instead there are commands that priests aren't to prostitute their daughters. Most of the uses are used much as we hear today, women being insulted by being called that.

Now the NT is more interesting, as the Greek word for prostitute us the word that most Bible translations today use for sexual immorality. Which creates an interesting question that I don't hear being discussed at all. Why is prostitution not condemned in the OT by becomes the main sexual word besides adultery used by Paul to condemn sexual activity.

Why has no one brought up the big obvious point towards prostitution (in my mind)?

Why can two people have paid and consensual sex for a porno, but not for prostitution?

Any guesses? It's because porn stars aren't actually "having sex" according to the law. They're merely "acting it out."

Seems hypocritical to me.

I believe both are heavily sinful but as to the use of pornography I'd have to plead the fifth (chief of sinners though I be).

It usually takes a bit of time after legalization for people to migrate because the prices for these sorts of things start off really high and as the supply increases the prices will drop. This is especially true with prostituion. Its technically legal in one or two countys in Nevada but it is pretty much cost prohibitive for most men.

I heard the pot in Colorado started off at like $600/oz so only the affluent were lining up to buy. What is attracting people is now the law enforcement heat is off the illegal stuff because the onus on law enforcement to prove if it legal or illegal weed is quite high so people can get the illegal stuff cheap.

I am surprised there is not rampent cheap prostitution in north dakota.

I guess they can control it better if it is done in smaller areas. That's why it's legal in rural areas.

But did you say male prostitution is illegal?

I'm going with the cynical answer. It is illegal in Vegas and reno because there it would interfere with the serious business of separating fools from their wages at the gaming tables.

Seems to me many years ago I read that a case was brought to a court that porn stars were prostitutes and were charged as such. But the ruling was that the person paying wasn't the one she was having sex with so it wasn't.

Male prostitutes are also, by way of those required medical exams (cervical exams), illegal.

Nevada had a male prostitute for a brief period of time. While I don't remember a lot about the situation, he didn't last long, but I don't recall him being forced out under this law.

So if someone else paid the prostitute then it would be lagit? Of course that does not address cost issues.
