Legal prostitution in a few counties.
It's illegal because the government hasn't found a way to regulate and tax it.
Nevada is the only state in the US that has legal prostitution. But it is NOT legal in Reno or Las Vegas. Pretty much only rural counties have legal prostitution. Sadly, the vast majority of prostitution in Nevada, despite this, is still illegal; taking place in Reno and Las Vegas.
That's weird that it is legal some places and not others.
To curb access in cities like Reno and L.V. where brothels were pressed as "public nuisance" for many years in the 1940s and 50s, the state law currently limits prostitution to those counties that are under 700,000 citizens (by the most recent decennial census).
Also that prostitutes must be associated with a brothel, be registered with the county, and the brothel must also be registered - and all registered prostitutes are required to have regular medical exams and such. Condoms are also required, by law. And engaging a prostitute outside a brothel is illegal overall. Male prostitutes are also, by way of those required medical exams (cervical exams), illegal.
Yup. Male prostitution illegal. Only women can be prostitutes in Nevada. But did you say male prostitution is illegal?

Though, Rhode Island allowed it until they outlawed all prostitution in 2009.
Maybe I can answer this myself. They are trying to prevent diseases. I don't know.
There are men who single out women who are alone or have a certain way about them. These men kidnap or otherwise attach themselves to these vulnerable women and get them hooked on drugs or hooked on the "golden mouthpiece". By that I mean they alternately tell the woman she is a princess/worthless [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. They often physically abuse her until she can't think for herself and then he thinks for her and tells her what to do. To sell herself for money that she will give to him since he has to do the hard work of thinking for her and he makes her feel oh so good thanks to drugs.
Some would say society has a vested interest in stopping that from happening. I'm not sure where modern feminism stands, or lies on its back, in reference to that.
They chose it on their own. They aren't getting pimped by someone else.
No, making it legal would not get rid of pimps and the drugs. It would institutionalize those; hence, give them legitimacy they don't currently have.
Legalizing it would also force women into doing it who don't want to do it. Gotta try to get a job to qualify for food stamps. If prostitution is a legal job then you force them into it by making it legal.
I'm arguing that abused people tend to become sex workers. Making it legal wouldn't address the root of the problem. It might make it worse by giving a legal financial incentive to make it happen. Sort of like giving a financial incentive to get a divorce might make divorce more likely to happen. Just a possibility. However remote.
I was just watching cops. I saw them arresting prostitutes, which I don't understand. Except I know they are just doing their job.
Even though I believe prostitution is immoral, I can't understand why it's illegal. Is it because they are trying to prevent them from spreading disease? What two consenting adults do in the privacy of a hotel or their bedroom is nobody's business except God's. And if someone gets paid for it, why does that matter? How does that affect anyone?

You do realize that American law is based upon a system of rights, and not upon making sure that its people are moral, right? You're legally allowed to be a degenerate as long as you're not infringing upon anyone else's right.sProstitution is illegal because in a decent society the highly immoral activities are illegal in order to discourage the engaging in them by the degenerate or the foolish.
It's also illegal because any right-thinking person realises that it is degrading to the prostitute to engage in such (irrespective of them "choosing" to do so) because it reduces humankind and the sexual act to being paid-for consumer goods.
Sadly, I expect it will soon be legal in a society in which duty is being shirked and degeneracy being given a free hand by people who seem to be giving up and letting rot set in.

It's important to have legalized prostitution, because the alternative is much worse: frankly, sex slavery and abuse. It is a choice between the two, and if you choose to have sex slaves and abused "pimped" women rather than people choosing to work in a regulated and safe industry, you are definitely not thinking of the good of society or the good of these women.
This isn't hypothetical. There are over 50,000 slaves trafficked through the US each year, and the vast majority of them are unwilling female prostitutes who have been kidnapped and taken from their homes.
This sums up my thoughts very well. The sex trade is a serious issue, and for it to be safe for women, we need to make it both legal and regulated. A huge number of women in the sex industry are slaves, even if they didn't start out that way, and that is not okay. We're supposed to be a nation of freedom, but we have an underground world that has quite a lot of slavery. 58,000 slaves go through the US every year, and the vast majority of them are sex slaves.
I think that it is imperative that the sex industry becomes legal, regulated, and safe. Because women and children don't deserve to be enslaved, and two consenting adults should be able to pay each other for sex if they want to.
The law doesn't exist to enforce morality. It exists to enforce the rights of individuals. You have the right to do whatever immoral thing you want as long as you're not stepping on anyone else's rights.
I dunno, it's been going strong for hundreds of years now. I think the prognosis is good.Yes, of course, legalising degeneracy makes all the difference.
America's liberty will be its destruction as porn and agent provocateurs overwhelm decency and reason.
Liberty is only something for the decent. When the indecent have it, they undermine and destroy. Your freeforall (american) daydream will destroy itself.
Prostitution is legal and controlled by the state in Nevada.
