  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Proof???!!!!!

You say religious or not we all tend to act pretty much the same.

That may be true of the people that come to this site, for debate. But they are the minority, the vast majority of Christians do not visit these sites.

And the vast majority of atheists don't either. My point being that you claimed that those who have "seen the light" may have a kinder gentler attitude toward others.

I think there is no evidence for this. While some atheists may be rude, some Christians may be rude as well.

Morality is not the sole property of the religious. That was my point.

And although the Bible may use the term "fool", a true Christian would not call anyone a fool.

"True Christians". Good term.

I have noted that religion never kept anyone from doing whatever evil they truly wanted to do and atheism never kept anyone from doing whatever good they truly wanted to do, and vice versa.

We need only look around us to see that people who have "not seen the light" are just as capable of being kind and forebearant as any given Christian. And there are a large number of Christians who are capable of just as human actions as any hardened atheist.

I know you do not believe in God, but for me God is the only one fit to judge and use the term, fool.

And you are to be lauded for that. That is a good attitude. Indeed there are many atheists out there who feel no one should be called a fool.

But most of us are just people, both religious and non-religious and we all get down and dirty sometimes. We all sling things at each other, even if it is merely as subtle a defensive jab as saying:

(emphasis added).

And, btw, I don't see anything wrong with defensive jabs! I just don't think a kinder attitude is what is shown by that...just a fully human attitude.

Wow! It certainly has some of the nicest production graphics and if anyone knows how science and philosophy work they know the value of high end graphics!

So, wanna clue us into what about this was "the best stuff" you've ever seen on the topic? Or is the mere advertisement of Lee Stobel's stuff "the best stuff" on the topic?

I had actuallu never heard of this guy

I watched a program with interviews of some many well known phycisists and scientist form many fields. All of whom were Atheist before discovering things . There are so many but I liked the fact that DNA has info . Where did info in DNA come from??They have scientifically proven that the information in DNA could NOT have come from natuarl selection.
Also they have discovered the mathmatic virtual impossibilty of intelligent life elsewhere in our GAL
Thereis sooooo much more its amazing.

So if you do not want to know for a fact there is a creator I suggest you avoid the information available at that site.
There are other sites you should avoid as well but especially that one.

No, I do not find it strange. What I do find strange is that you would define a Christian by certain words they do or do not use.
Part of this is in my signature but I think this will help you understand a Christian.

2 Timothy 2 : 23Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

1 Corinthians 3 : 18Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise. 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness"[a]; 20and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."[b] 21So then, no more boasting about men!

Job 12 : 2 "Doubtless you are the people,
and wisdom will die with you!
3 But I have a mind as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
Who does not know all these things?

Jeremiah 9 : 23 This is what the LORD says:
"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
or the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,
24 but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,"
declares the LORD.

1 JOhn 5 : 20We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Ephesians 1 : 18I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,

What you provided was an advertisement. So as for content I don't usually get my info from advertisements.

As for proof of God, if you are stuck with Lee Stobel as the premier for this sort of thing, then you can just blow off the collected works of the philosophers throughout human history.

I haven't read any Stobel, but I've seen his stuff around. I have read a lot about the history of the Church and religious thought, one of my best friends is a philosophy professor whose specialties include Medieval Church Philosophy, so you can imagine I am unmoved by an advertisement exhorting me to read Stobel.

If you would like to post what in Stobel you've read that impresses you, I suspect you'll find that even those of us who have not read Stobel are quite familiar with teological arguments for the existence of God.

I would like to hear from you what Stobel says that impresses you.

Are you talking about Unlocking the Mystery of Life? Because I've seen that video and I had a completely different reaction than you did. Quite frankly, from what I remember of the video, it was exceedingly thin content-wise.

I find that if people find themselves tempted to resort to quarreling in a debate, it's because they don't have a leg to stand on. I certainly know that most of the time when I get upset in a debate, it's because I have discovered that I'm wrong.

This is the best stuff I have ever seen on thr topic

It’s the same old thing, all waffle and no content. He is also making vast sums of money out of the logically dysfunctional.

His thinking mirrors that of people who had no understanding of the universe. We are here, we are special, we must created by a higher power in her likeness.

Get a grip; if life exists on other lumps of rock orbiting other stars, then in their eyes they will also think this must be created for us, everything is perfect for life AS WE KNOW IT.

No, I can't agree with that. Being antheist is a belief that God does not exist.

We are not born with beliefs.

Ha we are back to this old chestnut.

There is no faith in atheism; it is not the faith of no faith.

After all you along with all other religious people only believe in your own gods and religions. Therefore you are an atheist to all other religions and there are hundreds of them.

So by your logic you must be 99 % atheist and 1 % religious. Why do you not take that last step, or does your mortality frighten you that much?

OK, would you agree with me that we were born without beliefs,
then someone implanted their beliefs into us.

Some people may have had their believes implanted in them. But the believes I hold come from personal study.

Don't think you're exempt from this --- just because you're an atheist.

The Bible exposes your atheism as a form of worship.

It's kinda weird that most Christian and Muslims on these boards never say..... "I was a Christian because my parents/friends/family were Christians/Muslims".

Most say they found god on their own.

Amazingly, in Christian countries, they find Christ and in Muslim countries they find Muhammed (there are exceptions).

If they all did an honest open search, you would expect different results.
