That's because half of the founding Fathers were Deist. Remember, most of our founding Fathers were educated during the Enlightenment Age in Europe where Deism was in high gear. As the Age of Enlightenment educated crossed the Atlantic they brought with them their ideas of liberty, democracy, republicanism and religious tolerance (central to the Age of Enlightenment thought) to the American Colonies which "culminated in the drafting of the Declaration of Independence".Why? Why would it be a deist idea of God?
