I'm pretty new to the whole subject, and while I believe in young earth creation, I was wondering if there was actual evidence or proof of it. Any links to articles would be appreciated!

No, there isn't any proof of young Earth creation. Quite the opposite, in fact.

As far as I understand it, the origin of this idea is rooted in the dating of the events. I think I have a copy of a very old Bible, with the dates added in the column. *

* I have two very old King James Bibles, the first is about 200 years old and has the words "BC 4004" in the middle column, the other one has the words "Before CHRIST 4004" on either side.
N.B. As one pages through each of the above, the Book of Job is dated: BC cir. 1520 and Before CHRIST cir. 1520

This might help you to simultaneously explore, the arguments presented by the proponent of YEC and some responses to them.

How Good Are Those Young Earth Arguments : How Good are those Young-Earth Arguments

Creationists who try to prove their side scientifically don't seem to get this.
How about creationists who don't try to prove their side scientifically?

Non-creationists don't seem to get this point. (Where did everything come from?)

Romans 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Psalm 90:4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Do not believe in what you see. This is the teaching not only in Christianity, but in many other major religions.

Then that's cool - they can believe what they want. There's no problem until they try and impose their views on others or assert that there is evidence to support them.

A number of bible scholars have come up with varying lengths of
time for the number of years between Adam and present day.

The fact that there are at least 20 different estimates tells me
"nonsense in = nonsense out." The numbers they are using are
not intended for us to estimate the age of the earth. Doing so
is a mistake by silly people.

Invisible things are clearly seen? Is this an attempt at biblical humour?

You may substitute understood, felt, tasted, or obvious for "seen" if you wish.

Oh, I see.

So go to the back of the bus until we come up with something scientific.

Then we can come forward and get ridiculed ... right?

Either way, it's a Catch 22, isn't it?

It's not what we say that really counts, is it?

It's what we are.
