I just asked one of my elders, and there is a professor near by here whose wife wears hat in public and during church for this reason, and then there is Dr. Paige Pattersons wife who chooses to wear a flower behind her ear during the church service for this reason as well. A good thought to keep in mind is that different denominations believe different things as to what the "coverings" can be. However, I believe that topic needs to be a different thread. Feel free to email me if you want to discuss it further.

I guess that's akin to me saying - oh Suddam's an american - he's from that hemisphere!

;)

Saying a Kiwi is an Australian, doesn't bother me one bit - but I daresay my NZ friends disagree - something along the same lines as Canadian/American frustrations! :D

That's why I said 'there's not much' rather than 'there's nothing' - it was more directed at those who take two years and then complain their not married yet. Unless you had some MAJOR financial hassles (ie not because you're having a $10000+ wedding, but because it would be a struggle at that point to move out of home/a flatmate situation) or were determined to finish school, I don't think there's much more!

... and the married student says "you can still be determined to finish school and get married. Don't buy into the lie that you can only do one at a time!!!"

:):):)

I disagree with the negatives. My bf and I had been dating for a year, were discussing marriage (or had been for sometime) when he gave a a promise ring (with a real diamond might I add) for my 16th b-day. We are very commited too each other and were ready to make that commitment of marriage but obviously a bit young to set the date. We will be truly engaged when we are both through with school (he is on his way!) and ready to set a date and say I do! I see a promise ring as a commitment to each other and God and the engagement ring as "we're setting a date!"

A promise ring with a real diamond?!? How much did this cost, and what keeps it from being an engagement ring? If you're ready to get married, I understand that 17 is young, but why wait until you get through school? God can hold us up through anything, even financial difficulties :) (But then again... if he got you a promise ring with a diamond... how difficult can the finances be?)

$350, I was 16 when he gave it to me. We were ready to commit but not ready to set the date.
We don't want to be married durring school because of the stress of school and then the marriage, we just feel that it would be too rough of a start instead of waiting until we are out. I will wait on him! Plus what if we had a kid while were were in school?! I have told him that I don't need another ring for engagment but he says I do... oh well, who's to argue? ;)

My boyfriend and I have talked a lot about what the meaning of the promise ring he has given to me is. I know that he won't try to get me into bed before marriage. I trust him very much, but my guard is not going to be let down before marriage. I totally agree with Blue Impulse. My boyfriend and I definitely fit into this category and I praise God every day for it.

Just remember that physical possessions do not make committments: people do! Know your relationship, have good communication, know where you are headed, know your own goals, your partners goals, wants, and needs.. and make sure physical possessions never take the place of real emotions. If thats secure, then symbolic presents such as promise rings are safe tokens of affection, and are just darn adorable..

I have a promise ring that Brad gave me when he came to visit me in July. ;) I think it can be a very beautiful thing as long as both parties have an understanding of what the ring signifies. " What does this mean in our relationship?" Girls don't be afraid to ask this question! It it is hard already being in a commited LDR as it is. I know for myself personally that it gets a little lonely when I see couples holding hands, or just spending time together, it makes me miss brad all the more wishing we could see each other
more often. Then I pray and get it together and thank God for giving me the gift of Brad's love! Looking at my promise ring and remembering what it signifies:blush:
