Just thinking about which I would prefer to own.

Projector:
Pros = Can project onto a BIG wall.
Can have mates round and play multiplayer split screen on MASSIVE screen
Can also use for "home cinema" with room full of people
Can get hi-res version for reasonable price

Cons = Replacement bulbs can be VERY expensive
Need powerful projetor OR dark room. Not too good in sun light during the day.

i-Glasses:
Pros = Total emersion. What you see in your field of vision is JUST the game/video you are playing/watching
Spend more and you can have true sterioscopic vision on some games (true 3D)
Spend even more and you can have gyroscopic control in some games (moving your head mimics mouse movement)

Cons = Prolonged use is SURELEY bad for your eyes
Hi res is expensive and 3D/Gyroscopic is even more so.
Only YOU can see the screen, no one else.

For me, while I love the "total emersion" idea for gaming which is waht i-glasses could offer... I think he projector would be the better all round "must have" toy.

Projectors need a dark room regardless. I've tried it in both enviroments, I had lots of problems with them in a bright room.

I don't lean towards either product. It depends on your set up (though I would go for the projector because of the over all cost and my personal set up).

dark Room dedicated to it media: projector
Short games with total emmersion are more your thing? I glasses (or so I hear, never used one).

Yeah good points. I have succefully used a good projector in a "day light" room and it was ok but MUCH better in the Dark.

Also used a full on VR headset at a Games Industry Expo, playing Unreal Tournament. It didn't feel "natural" as on too many occasions I needed to turn 180 or 270 deg. Just moving your head doesn't feel quite right some how as you then expect your "gun" to be facing the direction of your hands NOT your head.

Of course the other con of i-glasses/headsets is you cant see your keyboard so you kind of need a secondary control device like a game pad or joystick :S

IMO, Gyro headsets need games with controls written to match. Was good fun though :D
