What you became is a member of a group most people have difficulty even exists, or, if it does exist, they find it impossible to believe that its members are actually being serious. Of course people and governments lie. However, there is only so much that even the combined forces of every government in the world could do. Fake the moon landing? Possible, and there would certainly be political motivations for it at the time. Fake that satellites exist when a good portion of their use is in private businesses? Not so much.

The problem is resources and motivation, there just isn't enough of either. If you want people to believe that there are satellites in orbit, why tell people that they have flashing lights on them that would make them visible from the ground in the first place, thus making it so that you need to fake their movements globally every night? There are far cheaper ways to fool people.

Then there is motivation issues. I know many think they are hiding the true shape of the Earth to invalidate the religious, but why do you think the shape of the Earth would even accomplish that? Not every single scientific observation clashes with the bible, and the idea that the Earth is flat is something it more implies than outright states, so there would be little point in targeting that aspect to cover up. There is just too much cost and not enough return.
