When we respond in obedience to the Gospel, then we are justified.
Another example of Abraham’s life.
8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.”
Galatians 3:8
The phrase, “In you all the nations shall be blessed”, is a reference to Genesis 12.
Now the Lord had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
4
So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him...
This is the example [the type] of the Gospel, when God justifies the Gentiles by faith.
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
- The promise that is conditional upon obeying the command -
I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Abraham's obedience of faith -
So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him...
- When Abraham departed, he was justified by faith; the obedience of faith.
This example is a type or shadow, demonstrating how we turn from our old life and follow the Lord in obedience to His Voice, by which we received our faith.
Which is why Paul, speaking by the Spirit calls it the obedience of faith.
But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for
the obedience of faith: Romans 16:26
