Printer Scanning

Does scanning a document on my HP Envy printer (to create .pdf or .jpeg) use up printer ink?

My guess, using the "you can't get something from nothing" rule, is that scanning does consume printer ink.

Thanks, Carl. I guess I'm of that age group that cherishes hardcopy. So, if I've already paid for lunch (electricity) by scanning--why, I'm going to print "to .pdf" only!

Thank you, Lismore. Good to know that I don't have to "buy two lunches" now. I'll pay for the electricity by scanning to .pdf and just look for the .pdf whenever I need it for reference.

That said... some printers won't let you scan if they think they're out of ink (regardless of scanning using zero ink).

I thought that depended on what type of printer one had? Like my canon uses ink when scanning...at least I thought it does?
