I love Sense and Sensibility! I often get the song that Maryann plays on the piano when Brandon sees her for the first time stuck in my head. :sorry:

I like P&P, I've seen the BBC and recent version once. While more informative and inclusive, the BBC version is SUCH a snoozer to me. It took me weeks to get through it.

Meh, I could take it or leave it.
Ah, S&S is my favorite instrumental movie soundtrack. It is gorgeous!

I love Emma, as well. I like both it and S&S more than P&P, I think. Although, I don't know...they are all good in their own way. I think the reason S&S is my favorite is because I can relate to it the most. I love Emma because it's lighthearted and cute, the costumes are amazing, and Jeremy Northam is absolutely gorgeous. :D

I love the movie. I haven't seen the older one, or read the book, though.

But even though it's set in a time when women were treated as second class citizens, it doesn't demean the characters at all. In fact Lizzy is intelligent, caring, and strong. Whereas Mr Darcy is actually a sensitive, shy and caring man, who just wants to love Lizzy for all her qualities, not rule her. I think it's brilliant. It's one of the movies I have especially put aside for those quiet nights in (with no work the next day), and I buy some takeaway and some beers to watch it.

I did see most of the recent BBC production of Jane Eyre. That was good too.

Of course, I'm not so quick to admit this in real life. Thank God no one on here knows me in real life.

Also I liked the older version better. I think Mr. Darcy had more of a personality in that one.
I like the older film as well (1995 I think?), with colin firth. He was great in that one if that's the one you're talking about.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I would be *thrilled* to have that in common with a guy, so i wouldn't feel so insecure wanting to watch a "so-called" chick flick, thinking he's not interested. :p

I agree. My bro-in-law watches them and he is the coolest guy on the planet.

My title quote is from S&S...hehe.

I love the song "My Father's Favorite", from the movie. It's played during the opening, and also played by Marianne during the movie. I actually went online and printed the sheet music so I could play it on my keyboard whenever I wanted. It's so sweet and sad and pretty!

You guys really like Colin Firth better as Mr Darcy? Eek...I find him utterly boring and unexpressive. I don't know the actor for Darcy in the new movie, but he is exxxxxxcellent, IMO. Much more broody and unhappy-looking, which only makes him HAWTTTT lol.

It's hard to follow the newer movie if you aren't familiar with the story. They talk really fast and a lot of the lines are almost too quiet to hear. I had to watch it over and over to catch it all, but it was worth it. And since it's written by a woman, about women...I can understand men not being thrilled by it lol.

Jane Austen was one of the greatest English novelists in history. Despite a rather sheltered life, she was able to capture the subtleties of human interaction so perfectly that her novels continue to be immensely popular to this day.

Her list of novels include:

Emma
Lady Susan
Mansfield Park
Northanger Abbey
Persuasion
Pride and Prejudice
Sense and Sensibility

This 5-1/4" (13.3 cm) tall, hard vinyl action figure comes with a book (Pride & Prejudice) and a writing desk with removable quill pen!

If Jane Austen were alive today, she'd want you to buy this. Don't make her sad.

Jane Austen's stories are just stories. But women find them compelling b/c they address things that we really like: love and respect. We long for these tihngs in our relationships and her characters recieve them in wonderful ways. Mr. Darcy, mr. Knightly, etc... show love for everything the heroine is, they love her completely, and when finally allowed to express their love they respect their love intrest. Austin's characters exist in a society that demeans women and treats them horribily but the male leads don't and in fact treat them better than could be imagined at that time. Sadly it seems an unreachable ideal even in this day and age. Unfortunately most modern relationships resemble Lydia's and mr. Wickim's .
