  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am such a fan of Austen and I did like the 1940 version of Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson and Lawrence Olivier. (both so very young then). However, it's in B/W, and lots of good dialogue from the book is not included.

I vote, so far, for the A&E version with Colin Firth. Haven't seen the new one yet, but if it is anything like Sense and Sensibility(another Austen book), it is bound to be good. The acting in Sense and Sensibility was perfect. Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant were great together. This also included a fine job by Kate Winslet and the supporting cast. Emma Thompson won an oscar for best screenplay that year. Not easy to put an Austen book on film, but she did it very well.

I didn't know A&E had a version. You mean the 1995 BBC version? ...

I love the book but I've never seen any of the adaptions.
I checked Rotten Tomatoes.com and they say its good, albeit, not faithful to the book.
That latter fact alone though, decides whether I'm watching it. :(

the A&E/BBC version is, in fact, VERY faithful to the book... even the script is similar to the lines said in the book... i HIGHLY recomend watching that adaptation...
