"Prepping" as a hobbie

You guys, its good that you are "prepping" for TEOTWAWKI, but keep some things in mind.

Using precious metals to barter - like silver, gold, or platinum? What is to stop the person you are bartering with to just point a gun at you, and demand everything you have, including barter price?

Old adage: One person stores only food, another stores only weapons...guess which one will eat during a crisis?

Saving up on food/canned goods/classical canned (in mason jars)? While it is paramount to prepare, be weary that you can save up on food for TEOTWAWKI, only to get sick and possibly die of hepatitis A.
Key is diversity and precaution and common sense..

Have you strategically placed your "prep" items in certain places? Be cognizant of where these things are placed. If, say, an earthquake happens while you are at work, it will be hard to get to your hard-worked-for "prepper" items. Unpredictable relocation and dislocation may make caches of prepper items useless, depending on the circumstances.
That's the truth~have to prepare for all sorts of options; bug-out bags in cars, cached supplies at trusted relatives/friends homes, even buried supplies.

Who do you trust? In a time when the world (as we know it) is ending, human emotions tend to trend on extremes. Neighbors that once were considered friends may be formidable enemies when the desperation of survival kicks in. Likewise, enemies could show themselves to be great assets.
Biggest thing Jack Spirko at Survival Podcast pounds on is community now, not later...knowing your neighbors now, knowing those you can trust now, building relationships and friendships now. The naive attitude is as destructive as the "lone wolf".

Mental prepping is the most important. The possibility of living in the wilderness, or the trauma of family/friends turning against you for the sake of survival can be heavy on the mind and spirit. Moreover, corralling one's lusts and vices are necessary for survival. There is a story of Jewish refugees during Nazi Germany that lived in the forest for a long while, but the lust for truffles (and seeking them out where soldiers were stationed) by two of the lot eventually got them found. Forget your want for a juicy porterhouse steak, or a warm scotch, or a cigarette...

Luckily for the majority on this thread, we are Christian. So, we know most of this stuff stated above anyway (especially concerning wants, and discerning character.) But, we are also human. While we are getting carpal tunnel syndrome talking about what we are doing to prepare, we are afforded the luxury of doing just that. So many variables will be introduced to test us if/when an asteroid collision, super quake, hypercane, nooklear, etc. befalls us. Take care all. Trust God (easier said than done, but not really.)

:amen:

Silver prices have really dropped~spot is under $20 last I looked, be a good time to buy...I've never bought silver, I've saved some "junk silver" I've come across over the years (pre-65 dimes and quarters) but nothing else. Anyone ever bought any?

Especially for ActionJ~~I've always wanted a tactical tomahawk but never saw one that I thought I'd like, didn't want a wood handle, and wanted something solid from a reputable manufacturer.

Estwing is THE hammer company~~when I saw this I got to Amazon right away

Here's how it works. You take a smaller pot and put it inside a larger pot. Fill the space in between them with wet sand, and cover the top with a wet cloth. When the water evaporates, it pulls the heat out with it, making the inside cold. It's a natural, cheap, easy-to-make refrigerator. So, instead of perishable foods rotting after only three days, they can last up to three weeks.

See ya folks. Was banned for 2 months for criticizing liberalism. I specifically joined this site because it was advertised as a site for "conservative Christians." That's precisely what drew me in. It turns out that the mods go out of their way to coddle the transgender, pro-Obama crowd. Not my kind of place. Many blessings to you true, Bible-believing Christians. May Christ bless and protect you. I'm outta here.

Are you able to maintain a sizable inventory?

No. his levels got so high he passed out at work, damaged his eyesight-can't see to operate the heavy equipment (Drive) and lost his job-thus his health insurance. He can get disability income but it's 2 yrs BF he is eligible to even buy Medicare coverage. Insulin is over $500 per month. & he has other issues like BP that require meds. We have been getting samples from various Md's and drug companies and there is a clinic that helps. It's been a lot of hoops and we have had to buy what we could til..He has to use these flex pins-since he can't see to measure by injection. Even Part D will not cover everything WHEN he can get it.
