Prepoll Dialogue #1: Welcoming new visitors to SDA....

Quote:
We need to begin to dialogue about how we will handle the changes that will happen shortly....
This is a prepoll thread to discuss how to welcome in the unbeliever and establish a positive atmosphere for them so these people will feel like apart of this group as they come in.:groupray:

If we have enough differing opinions in this discussion, I will turn it into a poll at some point, and a vote will be made to decide a few things.....Please everyone tell us what you think/ feel about this....

I would submit that we should not criticize them for what they believe, but try to understand who they are as a person, and treat them with love and kindness. Of course, we should not be passive about what we allow to be posted within this forum. There should be boundaries, and anyone that wants to enter into a dialogue with us ought to respect those boundaries.

Maybe have some scriptures available at all times with scripturues proveing the observance of shabbat?

I'm not quite sure why you would say this, but it appears to me that you are trying to antagonize.

So what do you mean to imply by saying this?

Look, this is the point. I don't know if you are in favor of shabbat or not or observe it or not. The point is that this is the time for the forum to decide what will be voted upon to be rules for this forum.

For example, if Sda's don't want visitors to come in here and bash you guys for observeing the seventh day, then this is your opportunity to make a rule for that.

If you don't care, then don't make the rule.

I am a Seventh-day Adventist, which means I do believe in keeping the seventh day holy.

I just think the idea that you came up with is kind of odd (I am still having trouble believing that you weren't trying to be sarcastic) .

As for visitor's coming in here to bash us for keeping the seventh day holy, they can try to attempt to do that, but not without having action taken against them by the moderators that we appoint to oversee this forum.

If people want to come in here and engage in a civil discussion over the Sabbath, that is fine with me. We can hold our own quite well in here. I welcome non-SDAs to come in here and discuss things with us. In fact, this is how I believe it should always have been.

There is one thing that I would like to suggest here however, and that is that I think it would be best that only SDAs make suggestions for rules that will ultimately govern this forum, since this is the SDA forum.

that's the idea...YOU get to create the forum the way you want to! Put in your own policies and rules! And if anyone comes in here and starts bashing your beliefs...feel free to report it and/or PM me about it and it will be taken care of! This is YOUR forum so do with it as you wish!

As long as visitors are respectful of the 28 fundamental beliefs of the SDA Church, then they should be welcomed here with open arms.

This is a start. Could someone list what these are?

I think the idea that is being discussed in the SDA rules wiki of creating another subforum where everyone (including non-Adventists and non-Christians) is allowed to debate would be a good way to welcome guests to our forum. The main forum would be limited to questions and fellowship, and we would still have the Traditional and Progressive subforums, also for fellowship.
