The hilarious thing is that dilation and effacement means nothing. You could go from nothing to completely ready in an hour, or stay somewhere between them for weeks at a time.

I never, ever got checked. I had no reason to find out. My baby is going to come out when its ready, and knowing whether my cervix had made progress is only going to cause anxiety or anxiousness, not actually anything productive to have a baby.

Membrane sweeping can cause false labor. It can make you feel like you're in labor, but actually you're not. Baby's going to come out when he/she is ready... lol I'm all about keeping baby in there as long as possible, within reason. The baby thrives, usually has fewer problems, and usually has a higher rate of breastfeeding success the older baby is.
(Said from someone who gave birth at 42weeks 1day to a 9lb baby. )

I have heard that the membrane sweep isn't ideal to have done unless you are overdue and want to give it a try.

My water doesn't like to break on its own, so I don't think it would help me anyway. I dilated to 7cm with a bulging sac that was causing tons of pressure with my 2nd one and was one happy puppy when my midwife broke my water. lol

I would imagine having it done before you're full term probably isn't a good idea - but it's one of the LEAST invasive medical procedures.

(I had eggplant, rebozo, accupressure, and sex and went into labor the next day. I have no idea which one was the contributing action!)

I have no idea when my water broke. lol I thought it might have early in the morning, and then after a few hours I got in the pool and never got out... so I wouldn't have known in there! Maybe i'll know for sure this time. ^_^

When my doctor did a membrane sweep it gave me 3-4hours of pretty consistent contractions about 6 minutes apart. I didn't go to the hospital because they didn't hurt, lol. But it definitely hot things going a bit and helped to dilate me from 4 to almost 7 in 3 days time. Have you had any internals yet to see if you've made any progress?

I would've been getting internals, except my OB was on vacation until Aug 1st.
So my last 2 appts have been with a GP who doesn't do that sort of thing..so I'll have absolutly NO idea where I am until my appt on Thurs. :(
That really bummed me out, I want to know the details. *sigh*

I am still going to ask for the sweep - How sore were you afterwards?? I ask because I also have my baby shower that evening. (yeah, I know!! crazy!) So I'm hoping I'll be able to sit down and walk around and such.

It hurt really bad while he was doing it, and I felt sore for about a half hour. Otherwise, the only discomfort was the contractions. But, I probably would have been able to be around other people that evening, provided it doesn't send you into full on labor! LOL.

Her older son and my daughter are about a month apart in age. Her younger son (soon to be born!) will be about 6 months older than my next baby.

It's cool b/c my older two have cousins the same ages and now my younger two will, also. :)

Does anyone else have issues with their hips hurting? Mine get all achey and cramp up at night, making it hard to sleep solidly. I end up out on the couch in the wee hours of the morning so I can stretch my legs out.

I just read an artical about memory foam, how it's supposed to help.

We had memory foam on our bed for a while and it drove me crazy. :sorry:

I was really sore last night and my lower back adjusted when I got up to go to the bathroom. It felt fine after that. I really need a chiropractor! lol

Get an exercise ball and bounce "violently" on it. I'm convinced that it was what helped push the baby down and get things moving. It was amazing during labor, too.

Oh my goodness, I LOVED the birthing ball during labor! Our hospital has a "double" one that looks like a big peanut, it was AMAZING!
