You'll find that I like putting up polls!!

I consider myself a liberal/moderate/centrist and a Green Party supporter. I think market solutions can be successful often when the right incentives, direction, fairness and social justice are considered. But I'm critical of the abuses of globalization, recognizing corporations as "persons" by law, "externalities" (I'd recommend the documentary "The Corporation"), mega-conglomerates swallowing up everything, situations that create conflict of interest or market failure (i.e. privatizing media and health care), and other issues.

I also believe that environmental issues should be considered a foundation rather than merely a plank in political party platforms (hence, my rejection of the traditional parties for the Greens).

What's your view?

P.S. Incidentally, my political compass score came to -6.38 left/right and -6.87 lib/auth., last time I took it.

Personally, I think the more people there are the worse things seem to get, and I almost long for the days when humans slept under the stars at night and hunted their food. That's what would make me happy.

Of course, short of colonizing another planet similar to Earth I know this isn't going to happen any time soon :p

I chose the social conservative/economic liberal choice. I'm all for everyone to have the same rights, at the same time people need to be held accountable for their actions as well. As for economics, I'm for assisting the poor as much as possible, but they need to help themselves as well.

I agree.

I voted for "anarchist or primitivist" but that's more of a happy dream. :)

Dealing with the populations and problems we have today, I tend to lean towards democratic socialism. I just didn't vote for it because it's not my first preference.

I'd say democratic socialism, althought this term could probably mean anything and I don't if this is necessaryily my pigeon hole.

I think most people believe that socialism is fundamentally anti-capitalism but I wouldn't consider myself that. But I consider capitalism a means to an end and not an end within itself. If the free market fails or is failing to meet social requirements then regulations should be implenmented to direct the market to bring about these changes. I also think that a welfare state is an essential protection for all citizens. I would consider State owned businesses to be undesirable based on the fact that the are generally by their nature inefficient and can be used as a political tool for the benefit of politicians and not of society.

Having said all that I would however eventually like to see an economic system based on co-operatives, credit unions and the like. But this would be a long way off.

I think that an educated electorate is fundamental to the maintainance of a healthy democratic system and therefore the government should make provisions to ensure equal access to all (including a third level education although based on qualification). I would favour a similiar system for healthcare, such as a national health insurance for all citizens.

This is to protect the investors from beening liable for the debts of the company. I am curious to know why you consider it a bad thing.

I chose Democratic Socialist.

I'd like to see our Capitalist economy balanced responsibly with Socialist ideals so that everyone has an opportunity to succed. The balance should reward those with exceptional talent or those who work exceptionally hard while insuring that any person who puts in a full days labor recieves enough compensation to provide all the necessities for thier family. This is Justice.

I'd like to see people living free, free to persue thier happiness in whatever form it takes so long as they are not infringing on the freedom of others. This is Liberty.

May there someday be Liberty and Justice for all!

Ideally I'd like an anarchy, but I'm starting to think that a meritocracy is more likely to work. Maybe something vaguely like Sparta, but with a lot differences in the specifics. But you don't have that option. So what the hell, I guess I'll vote monarchy, because that is close to what I mean if you squint hard enough, and it might stir things up.

CECILY: But Grandfather, the noble ideals you talk about also encourage discrimination, right ?
MEITZER: Highborns have duties that they must fufill.
CECILY: I know
MEITZER: For example on the battlefield the lowborn can run away if he is afraid.
MEITZER: But the man of high birth, the noble, has to stand firm without fear of spilling his own blood.
CECILY: So you think people aren't equal?
MEITZER: Everyone has rights, all humans are equal.
MEITZER: But people aren't the same.
MEITZER: And so the world should be ruled by nobles who aren't afraid to spill their own blood.
