I wish there were more preachers who preached by expository style rather than devotional style preaching. I love the way preachers who go through the bible in an expository manner preach! It is not only speaking God's word in a systematic way, it helps teach as well those who are new to the faith. Devotional style preaching has never appealed to me since I was just a kid some 40 years ago. If I wanted devotional style preaching, I wouldn't do my devotions in the morning before work

Yes, devotions are about a true believer praising and thanking God for His mercies and care. One can learn about expository preaching at www.biblecounsel.net where ministry is presented showing what God intends for His testimony in the world. Look up always!

I agree! Of course, all pastors, being human, are capable of taking a sermon into a direction that is what he wants to say instead of the Lord. But from what I have seen, expository preaching helps to avoid this better than any other kind. I don't mind a pastor taking a break now and then to do a systematic theology series, but I really think the expository/expositional style should be the norm.

This one reason why I love Driscoll so much he always teaches through books of the Bible. Every once in a while he will do a short series like the one he just did on the 10 commandments.

Our church preaches through books of the Bible as well. We use to go to a church that only did topical sermons or sermons based on Christian books and I hated it. I have learned I grow so much more when I get straight up scripture. A topical here and there is fine but going through the books themselves are my favorite. =]

I preach expository sermons, as does my senior pastor. There are occasional breaks to hit a topic.

I lead Bible studies the same way.
Yep, when man moves himself from the way of God and His ways, it is simply amazing what God can show him.

What's "election" stuff, it's not unscriptural, it's there plain as day, just as predestination, chosen. The Jews never had a problem with those things in scripture, they embraced them. Why do some people never hear the word of God spoken and go to hell? They weren't chosen for salvation. I love scripture, always have and always will. I love the fact that God loved me enough to send His Son to die as a propitiation for my sins and redeem my to Himself for His Own good pleasure and glorification and not mine. :) Because I view chosen, election, and predestination as all my salvation belonging to God for His Own good pleasure, and another sees it as God choosing them because they chose Him is just a matter of the Sovereignty of God in two different views. One view gives God the glory for everything, even the faith they believe with. The other gives man the glory for being able to choose more wisely than his neighbor. Love you in peace from our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus

sermons based on Christian books? I can see why you left that church.
