  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Basically, I'm a teen, but ya, I'm pretty usre lots of ppl here experience the same thing, so I'm kinda asking for advice from ppl with more experience:
I've got a competition in fencing and I really don't know how to pray, I know that prayer is acutally seeking God's will and not your own and also to give your worries to him and ask for his help, but for something like this, which is pretty much neutral, I'm kinda lost. I'm not particularly trying to win this for God but it sure is part of my life. Again, I stress that it isn't a right or wrong choice, and I know that i can ask him to comfort me and relieve me of my worries, but should I pray for winning? it just doesn't make theological sense to me! It's like asking for God's help to get money, to draw a parallel, which isn't wrong in it's own right, but it isn't really greedy either. I usually pray that I'll be able to do my best, but really, is it wrong to ask for God's help? ya, and I know that some will think it's ok,but could yall support your answers with the Bible? I would really appreciate it, thanks!

Replace your rapier with a scimitar, and buy a shield.

Seriously, though, spend the time practicing, instead, it'll pay off.

I do try my best when practicing, but ya, there ia always an element of chance and/or style involved so I was wondering what or how should I pray. I'm not a bigoted fool who thinks that I can win by prayer alone, God wants us to work hard too, just check proverbs.

I dont necessarily think you should pray for winning, but pray that God will give you the courage and the strength to do your best. If that means winning, then that's awesome. I think if you pray for God to allow you to win, you are kind of "testing" Him. Of course, that is JUST my opinion and you should do whatever you feel led to do.

What she said. :)
I pray before every training session, every match, and after every match.

I use to cheer in high school and we would have competitions and I would pray not for winning, but to be successful in all that i do and that my squad does and that they would do and act according to how God would want them to act. I would also pray for the safety of all the competitors in the competition.

thanks, but yould any of you think that praying "to win if it is God's will, but pleasseeeeeeee" kinda way is ok? cuz I'm really drawing a blank from the Bible, I mean, there were ppl who prayed to God to win battles, but that's kinda different, so it's like I can't find anything in the bible abt it...
