BTW, while I am at it: for those of you who are claustrophobic the best way to make it through an MRI is to close your eyes before they put you in the tube and pray the Jesus Prayer the entire time you are having the procedure. I did that with the two MRIs I just had and did not feel the slightest bit of anxiety while in the tube, which is amazing because I am petrified of tight spaces.

I couldn't keep my eyes closed long enough (although it does help when you're going in and out, to prevent dizziness). But yes praying while in the MRI machine definitely helped me stay calm. I would never dream of sticking myself in such a tight space voluntarilly.

What did they find? Is it a disk problem?

If it's a disk PT will hopefully help you (it helped me, just don't let them do traction because that made me worse).

May St. Panteleimon send healing from above and help you recover.

I forced myself to keep my eyes closed the entire time for both MRIs (brain and neck).

They found I have multiple layers of bulging disks and a bit of compression on the spinal cord.

OUCH. Have they given you any steroids? That's what initially got me out of the roughest patch in order to actually go through with the PT.

It really isn't hurting that bad, it is just that I have a sore neck and get bad headaches and I am having all kinds of wierd numbness issues with my shoulder, arm and hand.

He is having me take aleve 2x every 8 hours and told me to take vicodin for the pain at night if the headache is too rough to get through.

What I say ouch to is the idea of the myleogram and the nerve conduction study.

I don't have an icon of St. Seraphim. Should I write one?

St. Seraphim was beaten basically within an inch of his life by a bunch of thieves, resulting in a back injury that gave him a hunch back for the rest of his life. I'd say he'd be sympathetic to your pain. He's an amazing Saint, so even if you didn't have a back injury I'd say it was worth writing an icon of him.

I will get to work on him as soon as I get the icon of the Wedding Feast at Cana written that I am working on. I will start him at the same time as the icon of St. Photini that I am writing for the new kitchen we are building. St. Photini is going right next to the kitchen sink. "Give us the lifegiving water" will be on her scroll! :D

I suppose that's wiser than putting the icon of the Wedding Feast at Cana above the sink. Could have some unwanted side affects when it's time to wash the dishes. ;)

So tell me Michael, is there an Orthodox patron saint of bier?

I mean, I know Belgian monks are famed for their bier, but are there are any pre-schsim Belgian monks we could venerate?

Let me get back to you on that one! St. Boniface is German and pre-schism, but has no beer lore attached to him.

Did you read about me putting an icon of Jonah in the belly of the whale above my fish tank? Right above my 125 gallon fish tank Jonah will be there with his scroll saying "Out of the depths of Hell I cried out to thee O Lord!"

I remember you talking about Jonah, that's a cute idea!

I have good news for you! Check out this article:

Saints of Suds ("When The Saints Go Malting In")

It's FULL of Pre-schism saints!!!

The PT really was not that bad. Heat and electro-stimulation of the neck and shoulder, ultrasound of both, then traction on the neck. I got to take a 20 minute nap during the heat/stimulation and then another 20 minute nap during the traction. The therapist seemed to understand very well what we are dealing with in my neck/shoulder/arm/hand.

Stinks doesn't it ;)

On a serious note, I am praying for you. :crosseo:

Thank you. I really hope this can be taken care of via PT and not require more invasive things like testing and surgery.

I loved electrical stimulation, I used to make them put it up really high. I would listen to my Ipod while they let me vegetate with the stim.

Hopefully within a few sessions you'll begin to see improvements.

I had it at 7 this time, 8 was too much. I will take the Zune next time and listen to Pink Floyd.
